Serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level was analyzed in 99 patients with and without paraprosthetic mitral mechanical valve regurgitation (paraMR). LDH level was significantly higher in patients with paraMR of MedtronicHall (MH) valve (874±643 (IU/1) (n=14) vs. 541±133 (n=29)) (p<0.05) and in patients with paraMR of Carbo-Medics (CM) valve (2,351±2,344 (n=18) vs.674±135 (n=38)) (p<0.001). 10 of 18 MH valve patients with LDH level higher than 600 and 14 of 23 CM valve patints with LDH level higher than 750 had paraMR Elevation of LDH level was htdicative of paraMR. However, LDH level was dependent on the type of mechanical valve.
