With the aim of reducing CO
2, saving energy and preserving the environment, we installed a biomass incineration plant within the Tonegawa Division in 2012.
At the former rotary kiln incinerator plant, waste heat from incinerating industrial wastes was not recovered and energy was not used efficiently. However, at the biomass incineration plant, energy is recovered by steam. This has allowed fuel (LNG) for boilers used as in-house power generators to be reduced and CO
2 emissions to be cut significantly. After starting the operation of the biomass incineration plant, the volume of fly ash and bottom ash has increased, but total volume of industrial wastes has been reduced.
We intend to work hard to see to the safe operation of the plant.
