A small collection of fresh-water algae from the vicinity of Tsubosaka in the Prov. of Yamato (Nara Pref.) was made on December 15, 1946. Some observations on their occurrence and a list of species are given in this paper. Owing to the small amount of material, only 19 species have been able to list here, including 8 Cyanophyceae, I Rhodophyceae, 6 Bacillariophyceae, 3 Chlorophyceae and I Zygophyceae. Among them, however, Vaucheria and Spirogyra are not able to give their specific determination due to the lack of sexual organs. Most of the species are believed to be cosmopolitan. Some species are aerial or subaerial in habitats and others immersed in water. These immersed forms are usually known to occur both in standing and in flowing water, but Xenococcus chroococcoides and Chaetomorpha Okamurai are mostly growing in running water. The two algae, Xenococcus chroococcoides and Tolypothrix byssoidea f. saxicola are new to Japan.
