Predominance of gastric cancer is characteristic of the malignant tumors in the Japanese. From the previous questionnaire on the operated cases of entire Japan, it was found that operation in the early stage proved to give sufficiently good results. However, about 303 of the cases are still inoperable even today. It means that early diagnosis is not yet easy, in spite of the rapid progress in diagnostic technic. An attempt was made to apply the tanned cell agglutination method to the clinical diagnosis of gastric cancer patients. The agglutination of the cells sensitized with cancer extract seemed to have a considerable significance in testing the gastric cancer patients, as no agglutination was seen in the normal men and pregnant women. However, the reaction was not strictly cancer specific, as it occurred in gastric ulcer patients also, though low in titers.
