    The suitable type of platinum electrodes and the effects of electrolytes have been investigated fundamentally for studying the oxygen metabolism of various tissues.
    The results are as follows;
    1) When inorganic salts are used as electrolytes, multiterminal electrode is better than others on reproductivity and stability.
    2) The variation of current values is not remarkable in NaCl Solution of 0.1 to 0.9 per cent.
    3) When a Krebs Ringer solution containing more oxygen than a definite amount is used as medium, an electrode coated with polyethylene membrane must be used or 30min. is required from the time of setting when bare electrode areused in order to avoid the fall of current value.
    4) With the increase in the concentration of colloidal substances, a decrease in the current value of O2 is seen.

    Authos reported statistical findings of throat cancers among the Japanese in a period of past 11 years (from 1950 to 1960). The objective examination by enquete questionnaire to 46 university hospitals and 16 large hospitals, showd the total number of larynx cancers examined to be 2246 cases. The statistical observations were made from the following viewpoints, that is, age groups, sex distinction, yearly and local distribution, age and prognosis, interval from development to the first medical care, chief complains, clinical and histological classification, treatment, curative methods and prognosis, relationship between the prognosis and the types of cancer, recurrent and metastatic portions.

    A report is made on a rare case of 12 year-old boy in which tetanus developed after ear operation.
    Inspite of preoperative meticulous disinfection of the operation fields, symptoms suspective of tetanus such as trismus, rigidity of neck muscles appeared 12 days after radical operation of the ear.
    Assuming the case to be tetanus, antitoxic serum was given and the patient showed rapid recovery.

    Varidase Buccal Tablet (V.B.T.) was used for the conservative treatment of the paranasal sinusitis and its effect was decided by the clinical symptoms and roentgenologic findings.
    108 cases was studied in two groups (A and B). In group A, V.B.T. and Achromycin V were used for 6 days initially and then modified displacement method using Alevaire was performed. In group B, V.B.T. and Achromycin V were used for 6 days.
    Results obtained 6 months later were satisfactory in both groups. Clinical effect in group A was much better than in group B and this difference was blieved to be due to modified displacement method.
    Much is to be expected by the combined therapy of V.B.T. and modified displacement method for the conservative treatment of the paranasal sinusitis.

    The authors report 3 cases of suppurative meningitis caused by comprehensive resection of upper jaw cancer and a statistical observation of the nasal supprative meningitis was attempted.
    In reviewing 28 cases of this disease reported in the literatures since 1956 in Japan comparing with before, the following facts are established:
    1) The death-rate;
    (a) Before the introduction of antibiotics: 91.4%
    (b) After the introduction of antibiotics: 18.7%
    I stage (1949-1952): 40%
    II stage (1953-1955): 15%
    III stage (1956-1961): 10.7%
    (c) There is a significant difference in deathrate between spontaneous infection (33.3 %) and operative origin (0%) in our III stage.
    2) The facts show that the advancement of antibiotica has brought wonderful changes for the treatments and prognosis of nasal meningitis.
    3) The new disease named “postoperative repeated nasal meningitis” has been described in 8 cases since 1956 and the authors have discussed the statistical observation of this disease.

    The author observed and analyzed 354 patients. to underwent general anesthesia in our clinic. _??_m Jan. 1. 1959 to Dec. 31. 1961.
    The cases of general anesthesia were divided _??_o three groups. The first was the group of _??_ktail anesthesia (107). the second. intravenous ministration of thiamylal sodium or thiopenthal sodium (19). and the third. endotracheal anesthesia _??_8).
    In endotracheal anesthesia. ether had been used a chief anesthetic until January. 1960. but the- _??_eforth. nitrous oxide has become the chief agent.
    The author stated that the children under five _??_ars of age should be brought into the operating _??_m under complete anesthetic effects of intramu_??_lar administration of 2.0% thiopenthal sodium pro Kg. 15mg.
    It was also concluded that the indications of endotracheal intubation through the tracheotomy wound upon the tumour operations should be limited as follows; when the patient has a tumour in the mouth. throat and larynx. and there is a possibility of bleeding. or dissemination of tumour cells to the peripheral part of the body on touching the masses with the top of the endotracheal tube.
    In conclusion. he analyzed several methods of general anesthesia. which were used in our clinic.
    The best method of general anesthesia found. in the field of ears. nose and throat. is to use nitrous oxide with S.C.C. or nitrous oxide with thiamylal sodium or thiopenthal sodium in endotracheal anesthesia.

    During tympanoplasty the authors encountered seven cases with abnormal motility of the stapes which spontaneously became dislocated in the cleaning procedure of the pathologic granulation tissue about the stapes. No efflux of perilymph was noted and fenestra ovalis membrane was intact in these cases in which vertigo and vomiting were not experienced. In making a pathohistological study of the stapes of these cases a very specific pathologic observation was made on the correlation between the stapes and fenestra ovalis membrane, that is between the wall of the perilymphatic cavity and margin of the fenestra ovalis. A consideration was therefore attempted on the causes of the decrease of hearing acuity following tympanoplasty.
