The dynamic force exerted by the foot to the level floor in walking was analysed in the present study. A special dynamometer was devised for the purpose. Ten subjects were examined during several kinds of walking. Changes in the sagittal, transverse and vertical components of the foot force and the shift of its point of application during the stance phase are recorded along with the postural change of the subject taken with the 16mm cine-camera.
From the results of the observation of the changing process of the force, it can be said that the human walk is a progression of the whole body which must be supported against the floor. The large force observed in early stage of the stance phase may be rather a supporting action of the body mainly by means of the heel; the large force observed in later stage may mean rather propulsive action by means of the ball and toe. Any way the body is always supported almost upright and sways little.
We express our appreciation to Prof. Yoshiyasu NAKAO of the Somatofunctional Laboratory, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of Arts, for his help to this experi-ment. We also wish to express our thanks to Mr. Shunsaku MITSUHASHI of the Depart-ment of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo, for his kindness providing facilities for the experiment.

The morphological study on the hair streams of the animal body is of anthropological interest. The author has thoroughly investigated the hair streams in 82 cases (48 males and 34 females) of adult Japanese hybrid dogs and the following findings have been obtained:
1.Between the short-haired and the long-haired dogs, there were considerable differences in the hair patterns.
2.The positions of the diverging points (and their numbers) were: the nose (1), the orifices of the external auditory canals (2;the diverging whorls were found in 9 cases, 11.0%, 8 cases, 9.8% of which were the short-haired dogs), the median point of the lower lip (1), the axillary fossae (2) and the inguinal regions (2).
3.The positions of the converging whorls (and their numbers) were: the median part of the superior border of the manubrium sterni (1 or absent; the counter-clockwise converging whorls, 26.0% in male and 31.2% in fema- les;the clockwise converging whorls were found in few cases;the double whorls were found in about 7%), the rumps and the elbows (2 in each;the rump whorl was counter-clockwise on the right side, clockwise on the left side;the whorl of the elbow region was clockwise on the right side, conter- clockwise on the left side;the whorls were found in these positions clearly in the short-haired, but not clealry in the long-haired) and the heels (almost absent, but two whorls were observed in only one case, a male short-haired dog.).
4.The positions of the converging points (and their numbers) were: the navel (1), the genitalia (in males, the point of the penis) (1) and the point of the tail (1).
5.The positions of the hair crosses (and their numbers) were: the mdial angles of the eyes (2), lateral parts of the chest wall (2), the ventral median part of the chest (1), abdomen (1), the genitalia (1), the perineum (1), the axillary fossae (2), the ulnar sides of the forearms (2), the popliteal fossae (2) and the tail (1).
6.The positions of the hair triangles (and their numbers) were: the heels (almost absent, but four triangles were observed in only one case out of 82, the male short-haired dog that had two converging whorls on the heels.).
7.The ventral region of the neck: the hair streams spread from the diverging point at the median point of the lower lip, but in this region, one (in about 23%) or two (in about 5%) diverging whorls were found, accompanied with one hair cross.
8.The positions of the diverging lines: the corners of the mouth, the median line of the nose, the areas between the diverging points of the axillary fossae and the hair cross of the chest.
9.The positions of the converging lines: the ulnar sides of the forearms, the areas between the diverging points of inguinal regions and the genitalia, the areas between the hair crosses of the popliteal fossae and the converging whorls of the rumps, the areas between the hair cross of the chest and the converging point of the navel.
