An effort was made to outline and to standardize the cytological diagnosis of the lung cancer.
Grouping, shape, staining of the cells, nucleus and nucleoles were examined. The ratio of nucleus to cytoplasm was also compared on a large group (over 1, 000 cases) of proven lung cancer.
The characteristics of each cell type;squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, large cell anaplastic carcinoma and small cell anaplastic carcinoma, were illustrated, and the summary of these were shown on the table and the microphotography.

Benign and malignant tumors of the lung were induc ed by two nitroso compounds. Three strains of mice, dd N, ICR and C3H/AHe were divided into groups and fed with either DM N or DE N, the former mixed in basal diet and the latter added to the drinking water.
Lung adenoma was noticed in 63anh lung carcinoma was found in19out of133effective animals. Three out of 19cases of lung carcinomas had distant organ metas tasis, in the liver, kidney and mediastinal nodes. Turnorsoftheliver, kidney, testis, hemangioendothelial sarcoma of the subcutis and leukemia were also observed.
DM N compound was more potent than DE N in the in duction of lung adenomas and carcinomas, and dd N and ICR mice were more susceptible than C3H.

Lung adenoma can start from either alveolar lining or bronchiolar epithelium, resulting in a mixed type of ade nomatous growth. An adenoma can progress into carcin oma, but most of the malignant growth appeared to sta rt de novo.

During4years between 1966 and 1969, there were24cases with pulmonary cancer in younger age among 361 cases in total.
Only 5 cases of them had not any complain, while the other cases showed some symptoms such as cough or hemosputum.According to the classifications of x-ray finding, 2 cases of them showed peripheral nodular type and the most of the cases showed hiliar type or pleurisy type.
As regards the prognosis after admission, 14cases (58.3%) died within6 months, and20cases (83.4%) within one year.
Only 8 cases (33.3%) were treated with resection, however, in most of them the metastasis already extended to the regional lymph nodes or mediastinum.
The other16cases (66.7%) in the endstage were treated with radiation, chemotherapy or combined therapy.Accordingly they had extremely poor prognosis.
Median survival time from the first examination was5.3months in plumonary cancer of younger age, while19months in resected cases, 6.9 months in non resected and6.7months in totol cases.
Pathohistological type of these cases, consist of undifferentiated carcinoma of 58.3%, adenocarcinoma of 20.8%and spuamous cell carcinoma of 12.5%. Therefore, there are more cases with undifferentiated carcinoma in younger age than that in total cases.

A75year-old male complained of left chest pain caused by left malignant pleurisy on admission. This initial symptoms followed gradually by the syndrome of inappropriate secreti on of ADH during 6 months.
Postmortem examination proved the production of ADH like substance by the tissues of the primary tumor.

Two cases of socalled alveolar cell carcinoma are reported and hitherto reported 68 cases of alveolar cell carcinoma in Japan are reviewed.
The first case that we had was 53-year-old female, who was diagnosed as the lung miliary tuberculosis at first, and so she was treated with chemotherapy. As she got worse inspite of taking chemotherapy, we performed the operation of exprolatory thoracotomy.
And then we found alveolar cell carcinoma in histological examination.
Our second case was 57-year-old male. He was diagnosed as the lungabscess on his right lower lung at the department of medicine.
Then we performed the operation of right lower lobectomy with middlelobe segmentectomy because we recognized the small lesion in middlelobe. We diagnosed him exactly as alveolar cell carcinoma after histological examination.
Even now, we have many clinical and pathological problems about alveolar cell carcinoma just because it is different from ordinary bronchogenic carcinoma.
Most of the cases in Japan were found out on the autopsy but some of them were diagnosed as alveolar cell carcinoma during the operation.
In general, those patients who got the operation in its early stage seemed to the better in their prognosis.
Therefore the diagnosis and operation in its early stage are expected to bring out the best prognosis.
