The relationship between the color of the cabbage and the carotene and chlorophyll contents was studied.
A cabbage was divided into 10 parts, each of which has a different color (from green to white), and their Hunter's color values were measured. Carotene and chlorophyll in the cabbage were extracted with supercritical carbon dioxide using ethyl alcohol as an entrainer and were analyzed by the HPLC method. The following results were obtained.
    1) A high relation (r=0.914, p<0.01) was observed between the carotene and chlorophyll contents in different parts of cabbage.
    2) There were high correlations between the chlorophyll content and color value L (r=-0.989, p< 0.01) and also between the carotene content and color value L (r=-0.954, p<0.01). Color value L of cabbage can be used as an index of carotene level.
    3) There were high correlations between the color value b/a and chlorophyll content (r=0.860, p<0.01) and also the color value b/a and carotene content (r =0.826, p<0.01).

The relation of the freshness to the odour of sardine during storage for 28 days at-18-+ 10°C was investigated.
The freshness was estimated by the measurement of K value and by the determination of trimethylamine nitrogen (TMA-N). The odour was analyzed as the volatile compounds by gas-chromatography using the head-space method.
The results obtained were as follows :
    1) The freshness of sardine was indicated by K value and quantity of TMA-N became higher, as the storage time passed and as the storage temperature rose.
    2) Production of the volatile compounds was observed with the lapse of storage time at-1-+10°C, but not observed at-18 and-3°C.
    3) The main component of the volatile compounds was propionaldehyde at the beginning of deterioration, and was ethyl alcohol when the putrefaction proceeded.
    4) A highly positive correlation between the freshness and the odour of sardine was found during the cold storage.

Dietary satisfaction of female students and the factors affecting it have been investigated using a questionaire for 647 students in Yamaguchi Women's University. They were analyzed by use of Hayashi's quantification II method and the results are summarized below.
One of the factors which affects the dietary satisfaction is dietary habit including taking breakfast regularly and taking various foods. The another factor is the residential environment, that is, the living in a boarding gives a lower score than the living in their home or in dormitories. Preference of cooking is highly contributed to the dietary satisfaction among the female students. Likewise, the faculty to which they belong, consciousness of dietary, character of individuals are related slightly to the dietary satisfaction among the female students.

The deformation of fabrics in bending is closely related with the parameters 3B/W and√2HB/W (where B, 2HB and W are bending rigidity, bending histeresis and weight per unit area respectively).
In this paper, the effects of fabric weight and method of hem finish at the bottom on silhouette of gathered skirt were studied by applying the heavy elastica theory and the theory of buckling.
The results are summarized as follows :
    (1) When fabric weight per unit width Hw on the bottom of gathered skirt increases, the angle at the bottom of silhouette θs becomes greater.
    (2) The greater the gathering ratio of skirt Gr, a ratio of amount of gathering to width before gathering on the waist, the smaller the angle at the bottom of the silhouette becomes.
    (3) The fabric of big value of 3B/W makes the bottom of the silhouette of the skirt open wide.
    (4) It was found that extension at the bottom of gathered skirt θs was described as a function of 3B/W, Hw and Gr.
    (5) In the finish of the bottom, when the hem is pressed for set, the bottom extending is smaller, than when it is not pressed.
These results are in good agreement with the results of the simulation test.

During the rapid increasing in the aged population in Japan the private retirement home for the elderly, which aim at taking a function for securing the living of the aged, have been built in succession, and resulting in the increase of residential applicants.
This thesis is to clarify the question at issue and to search for the recommendable living ways of the elderly by the study on the comparison among 12 various scale private retirement homes for the elderly in Hyogo Prefecture (8 rental system type and 4 lifetime occupancy privileges (LOP) system type).
The results are as follows :
    1) LOP system has more abundant equipment in comparison with rental system.
    2) Notwithstanding the above fact, the evaluation of living conditions by the residents are appreciated by the majority of them in the rental system, whereas it depends on the managerial subjects in the large and middle scale LOP system. In case of the latter, the appreciation is obtained only on the condition of the coincidence between needs of residents and managerial system of such home.
All the residents of private retirement home are not the persons in the upper income bracket, and their income are widely distributed according to such factors as size of accommodation, management policy, amount of down payment etc., whereas LOP system homes increasing rapidly in numbers require a large amount of down payment.
This phenomenon means the lack of public-built residence for the elderly who are affordable to pay such high amount of down payment to enter LOP system home.

This study, based on questionnaire method, discusses the headlined theme. For this study, mail survey were carried out in 6 regions. The answers were elderly people (65 years old or over) living alone. The main findings are summarized as follows :
    (1) The principle of “separating dining room from sleeping room” is also important for the elderly living alone. More than two rooms in number and 10.5 Jo (approx. 17.5 m2) are required in living space to realize this principle.
    (2) More than 10.5 Jo of living space are required to furnish room for the daily life of them.
    (3) The living space of 10.5-18 Jo is recognized to be adequate by many answerers of urban area for one elderly person living alone.
    (4) Accordingly, the need of minimum living space by the elderly in urban area is 10.5 Jo at present in Japan. This space is calculated at approximately 30 m2 of overall dwelling unit.

In some instances, present design methods result in floors that have objectionable vibration. There are psychological and physical factor (frequency, acceleration, amplitude, exposing time) about evaluating of human responses to vibration, and the evaluating method have to be composed comfortableness which dweller suits. It is the purpose of this paper to point out real evaluating method about human senses.
Psychological experiments had been carried out by using the shaking table of vertical direction. We consider human senses and ability of human works. We have two evaluating methods which are comparative and absolute, asked the level of magnitude about human senses, the level of uncomfortableness, and the level of superior or inferior limit. The standard vibration during all experiments has been constant.
    The results are as follows.
    1) The ability of human works and the magnitude about human senses are depended upon frequency. The limit of human senses and the uncomfortableness are depended upon acceleration.
    2) Human responses are depended upon frequency influenced acceleration.
    3) We have to evaluate human responses from subjectivity of human senses which are considered purpose of dwelling.
