The aim of this paper is to clarify better conditions for women's daily lives during the period of child-rearing, because the birth of a child changes women's daily lives and their family relationships drastically.
For this purpose, the author tried at first to clarify women's daily lives during the period of raising their babies, including their consciousness, their family relationships, and their social lives. Then the author divided them into two categories, “well-being-group” and “poor-managing-group, ” to seek better circumstances and conditions for their daily lives.
    Findings are as follows :
These women tend to be socially isolated, but it is good for them to have rich daily lives and social relations. It is especially important to have people to aid in rearing infants. It is very important to consider husbands' attitudes toward child-rearing, and each couple's attitude toward marital relationships.

The author stayed in San Jose City, California, in October 1986, in order to examine family ideas and later life of Japanese-American seniors in comparison with those of the Japanese. The inquired were selected from among Japanese-Americans aged over 60, who were living at residential institutions in San Jose and San Francisco and also in the suburbs of San Jose. They were educated in Japan and can read and write the Japanese language. The subjects are 25 males and 46 females.
The results are summarized as follows :
Of the subjects, those born in Japan are 60 %. 50 % of males and 40 % of females are aged over 80. While they are closely tied with Japanese community, few of them feel a strong attachment for Japan. They accept ideas toward the conjugal family system more intensely than the Japanese. They particularly make much of companionship and intimacy between husband and wife, but are negative about remarriage. On the other hand, they think they can not interfere their children's life style and must not do so. Their such attitude causes few cases of generation gap. Though they live apart from their children, they exchange visits with their children so frequently as to establish mutual close relationship between parent and child.

The hardness and biting off of six kinds of foods were evaluated using sensory evaluation and examined the relationship of them to the masticatory force patterns in the masticatory movements.
The maximum masticatory force (F), the maximum derivative of the masticatory force with respect to time (ID) and the loading time on tooth (t1) were derived from the first masticatory pattern of the masticatory movements. The number of masticatory movements (N) and the duration time (T) of mastication up to complete swallowing were derived from whole masticatory movement.
Sensory evaluation of hardness were correlated with ID, t1, T and N. Sensory biting off were correlated with F, t1, T and N.
This implied that F and ID were characteristic of sensory hardness and biting off of foods, restictively, and t1, T and N were common characteristics to both sensory hardness and biting off.

The content of ovalbumin and conalbumin in the protein component of egg white is 60 and 12 %, respectively. Experimental studies were made on the cooking properties of purified ovalbumin and conalbumin in the preparation of meringue and baked meringue.
Results obtained are summarised as follows :
    1) Meringue prepared with purified ovalbumin was hard, containing much air. Baked meringue with ovalbumin showed spongy puffing. On the other hand, meringue with conalbumin was soft and viscous, and baked meringue, also prepared with conalbumin, gave puffing having the shape of dome.
    2) Comparison of the puffing volume of baked meringue prepared with different protein sources has provided the following tendency in the descending order, i.e., a mixture of ovalbumin 50 %+ conalbumin 50 %>egg white >ovalbumin 100 % >conalbumin 100 %. Thus, it is shown that the mixture of ovalbumin and conalbumin in the equal quantity has given the best result in the experiment.

Sizing changes the geometry of a fabric, while the fabric gains a definite effect by the sizing. It is necessary to evaluate inclusively the internal structure of sized fabrics for characterization of them.
By the mercury intrusion method, only the internal volume of the radius region less than ca. 180 μm can be measured but there is much more volume of larger radius region in a fabric. We applied the equilibrium liquid absorption method to evaluate the internal volume/radius distribution in several sorts of sized fabrics. Summing up the internal volumes estimated by these two procedures gave a profile of major internal volume/radius distribution in the sized fabrics.
The inter yarn or the fabric surface volume of each sized fabric was differ from that of the fabric before sizing. The inter fiber volume in cotton fabrics was well filled with any kind of sizing but in acrylic fabrics was not filled sufficiently with carboxymethylcellulose or starch.

This paper examined the moving fitness of slacks based on measurement of clothing pressures on abdominal and lumbar regions, which were changed by variations of the structural elements of slacks ; the back crotch width and the gradient of the back center-line. Six types of slacks were used ; type 1 was the basic pattern by draping, types 2 and 3 were variations in the back crotch width (-2 cm, +2 cm) of the basic pattern, types 4 and 5 were variations in the gradient (10, 20°) of the back center-line of the basic pattern and type 6 was the gradient 20° with the less crotch width.
The results were as follows ; (1) Clothing pressures of the slacks of the back crotch width+ 2 cm were about 2 times as much as that of the slacks of the gradient 10° and the gradient20°in the sitting posture. (2) Clothing pressures of the gradient 20° with the less back crotch width were almost same as that of the gradient 20° in the sitting posture. (3) As for clothing pressures on abdominal and lumbar regions, the gradient of the back center-line had better effect on the moving fitness than the back crotch width.

The relation between the subject women's life stage and such items as the purpose, content of learning, learning activities, the media presenting knowledge and information about daily life, internal motivation, problems in daily life and requirements to curriculums of in-school home economics education were analyzed.
It was found that the purpose, content of learning, learning activities and the participation in learning activities were depend upon life stages of women. The majority of the women at the second and on and after the sixth stages had shown lower participation rate in learning activities, although the women on the stages have had a great deal of problems in daily life.
Our findings including those of our previous reports allowed us to draw the following conclusion. That is, the home economics education should obviate many obstructions which were brought about from the structure of living and should be prepared the curriculums to meet individual learning opportunity encouraging the participation in learning activity, for its development as a lifelong integrated educational system.
