    From the light of the foregoing, the aborigines including Peipofan are the first race in Formosa scattered on the outset, around the entire Island. Until recently, they practise the primitive scale of life, preserve what it is in the great nature. They received protection from various stages of Authorities. But due to the fact of environment or background and the struggle of existence with the Chinese race they were forced confine into a certain spots behind mountains that made their economics. education, and health aspect in a backward phenomenon and the population rather undeveloped. The aborigines, however, are a fine race especially of their speeches, music and physical training in which they have superior abilities, the social constituents as well. They possess good customs and traits. We should therefore sympathize and encourage them to uphold whatever they have of their own pride, and culture until the prosperity would approach upon and equality would prevail among them, so that to build up their healthy and beloved country and the well-being of mankind.

    Most of the radiobiological protectants reported in the past are effective when they are given during or just before irradiation, or when given in seriously toxic doses. Therefore, they will be of little value for practical use. On the view point of homeopathy, some positive results were reported in this field. But it should be avoided to use radiation as a pretreating agent because of its deleterious cumulative genetic effect. Stokinger et al. had discovered a phenomenon of “cross-tolerance” among ozone, nitrogen dioxide, etc. Ozone is known to be radiomimetic. So, we attempted to use ozone as a prechallenge treating agent.
    A tolerance to x-radiation was rapidly developed (within 24 hours) by subjecting mice previously exposed to 1ppm of ozone for only one hour. Dose reduction factor at LD50 was about 1.3. This tolerance lasted for at least 10 days and disappeared at about 50th day after exposure to ozone. These pretreated animals had no significant changes in body weight and blood picture, and they could swim for a long time equally as controls. This radiotolerance has such advantages as rapid development, long duration and good preservation of physical strength. This experiment may promise a future progress in the field of radiobiological protection.

    The present study was undertaken to explore the possibility of using the records of clinical histories of in-patients as a source of health statistics.
    Analysing the records of clinical histories of 1, 977 pediatric in-patients who were discharged from three large hospitals in Kyoto, Japan in 1959 and 1960, the following results were obtained.
    1) In-patients are seemed to be a fairly unbiased representative of the population of serious cases. So, classification of illness, condition on discharge, duration of stay in hospital, age and sex observed on in-patients will provide the useful estimate about that on the population of serious cases.
    2) The feature of in-patients in each hospital is some what variable from hospital to hospital. So, in order to get the unbiased information on in-patients in some district, investigations on two or more hospitals in the district will be necessary.
    3) The clinical histories of pediatric in-patients seem to contain many items which are very useful as a source of health statistics. Especially, past history of measles and whooping cough, family history of tuberculosis and neoplasms, records on vaccination, and other records on state of birth, on infant feeding, on family size will certainly make valuable data for health statistics.

    東京都消防庁本郷消防署勤務者を対象として, 24時間勤務の労働医学的立場からの調査, 並びに測定を行ない, 次の如き結果をえた。
    1. 出火出動のない消防業務は, 肉体労作よりも, 精神労作に属し, 24時間の精神拘束は心理的にも身体的にも強い stress として働いている。特に, 監督者より消防士に自覚的疲労症状の訴えを多く出している。
    2. 一方, 出火出動となると重労働労作に転ずる。このエネルギー代謝率は, ホース車牽引13∼15, 手広め13∼15, 避難者救助作業6∼8のR.M.R.が得られた。又, 被検者の摂取栄養量は低カロリーで, 動物性蛋白質の摂取が少いことが知られた。
    3. 仮睡をとる条件下にあるが, 24時間勤務は強い精神集中の脱落をきたしている。各種機動車運転勤務は, 戦斗車が最も高い注意力を要することが知られた。
    4. 静的作業から動的作業への移行が準備過程を経ずして行なわれる業務のため, 循環器障碍発生に対する健康管理の要が認められた。
