Surprising is the devlopment of the genus Athyma Westwood (Nymphalidae) in the small island of Palawan, where we could recognise nine distinct species and more than half of them are endemic to the island and the neighbouring Balabac Island. We describe an unique race of Athyma asura from Palawan Island. The species is distributed from Himalaya to south China and southwards to the Malaysian subregion, but has not hitherto been found in Palawan Island.

The Thyrididae are a small family and 13 species belonging to seven genera have only been recorded from Japan. This paper deals with the classification of the pupae of eight species belonging to five genera of Thyrididae. Only Herdooics is very different from the others in this family not only in the larvae (Mutuura, 1958) but also in the pupae; however, it is considered that this genus is somewhat correlatical to most of Thyridid-genera. The pupae of Thyrididae excluding Herdooia are allied to those of Pyraustidae, especially in Epipasehiinae and Pyralinae, but are easily distinguishable from them by the forewing extending to the 5th abdominal segment. On the other hand, Herdonia is similar to Alucitidae and Pyraustid Schoenobiinae but is distinguished from Alucitidae in that the forewing extends to the 4th abdominal segment and the prothoracic leg is longer than the maxilla, and from Sehoenobiinae in that the labial palpus is wanted, the prothoracie coxa and troehanter never meet on the meson and the 8th abdominal spiraele is situated more dorsad. Moreover, it is very characteristic of Thyrididae that the appendix of prothoracic spiracle is present in some genera. The author is obliged to Messrs. Toshihisa Saito, Osaka, and Rikio Sato, Niigata, for the offering of the specimens.

The subfamily Heliconiinae (Nymphalidae) are distributed oniy in the New World, and include many species in the tropical and subtropical region of Central and South America. The author reports here the list of Heliconiinae with some ecological notes, which were surveyed and collected by the 1st Scientific Expedition of Shizuoka University to the Colombian Andes, 1967. The author expresses his thanks to the late Mr. Taro Iwase, Mr. Akito Kawazoe, Dr. Koroku Negishi and Mr. Mono Wakabayashi who offered him conveniences of investigating literature, and also to Dr. Ryuichi Tsuchi and Mr. Takeshi Sugimoto who helped him through the butterfly survey in that expedition.

An aberrant specimen of Ourapteryx persica Menetries was collected at Mt. Kozingadake, Nara Prefecture, Honsyu, Japan, on July 22nd 1973 by the author. The wings of the normal specimen are white in general appearance. However, this aberrant specimen differs from the normal one as follows: forewing grey, with the inner line preceded by a distinct white band, with the outer line followed by a similar band, and with a distinct white marginal line; hindwing with a grey submarginal area, slightly mixed with blackish-fuscous scales.
