The larva and pupa (including the food plant) of Mycalesis gotama madjicosa Butler from Okinawa Island, the Ryukyus, are compared with those of M. g.fulginia Fruhstorfer from the mainland of Japan and Yaku Island and M. g. madjicosa Butler from Ishigaki Island, the Ryukyus. Conspicuous differences are found in shape and colouration of the larval head, colouration of the larval body or the food plant (in rearing), not only between the two subspecies, fulginia and madjicosa, but also between the two races of the latter, from Okinawa and Ishigaki Island, the Ryukyus.
