This paper deals with subspecies of Theclini in Japan enumerated below. 4. Antigius butleri butleri (FENTON, 1881) = Antigius butleri onomichianus MURAYAMA, 1954. syn. nov. in 1934 T. ESAKI stated that this form should be considered as a synonym of the original subspecies. In 1954 it was given subspecific rank by MURAYAMA and was considered as the subspecies of butleri from Honshu. According to the examination of the series avairable for study, it has become evident that this form was quite congeneric with the original species in Hokkaido because its characters were often found within the scope of individual variation. 5. Araragi enthea enthea (JANSON, 1875) = Araragi enthea yucara MURAYAMA, 1953. syn. nov. MURYAMA described yucara from Hokkaido as a new subspecies of enthea. According to an examination of many specimens, the subspecific characters given by MURAYAMA should be considered as individual variation. 6. Favonius jezoensis jezoensis (MATSUMURA, 1915) = Favonius jezoensis magnificans MURAYAMA, 1953. syn. nov. Jezoensis from Honshu was distinguished from the original species of Hokkaido by MURAYAMA, though the specimens from northern Honshu were lack in his study. A comparison of many specimens from various regions of Japan has shown that jezoensis from Honshu could not be separated the original. 7. Favonius cognatus cognatus (STAUDINGER, 1892) = Favonius cognatus jozanus MATSUMURA, 1915. syn. nov. Based on the original description of FIXEN, MURAYAMA considered jozanus MATSUMURA was the subspecies of ultramarinus from Hokkaido. In 1954 ESAKI has shown that the species called ultramarinus by Japanese authors was not the true ultramarinus, but cognatus STAUDINGER, based on an examination of the type in British Museum. Accordingly jozanus MATSUMURA, if it represents a good subspecies, is considered as a subspecies of cognatus. But a careful study of the series from Japan and Korea has revealed that cognatus in Japan had no subspecifiic divergency.
