The eversible cervical glands of 90 species of Japanese noctuid larvae were examined and their existence was confirmed for all the species examined except Rivula. Chemical substances found in the glands are formic acid and C_<13> ketone.

To clarify the phylogenetic relationships among the four species of the genus Luehdorfia, L. puziloi (Erschoff), L. japonica Leech, L. chinensis Leech and L. longicaudata Lee, the male and female genitalia of these species are studied. Based on the morphological characters of the genitalia, especially those of the epicosta, lateral process of dorsum, valva, and juxta in male, and of the 8th abdominal tergum and sternum in female, a cladogram is proposed.

The diagnostic characters and geographical variations of seven Indo-Chinese species of the genus Stichophthalma are treated: godfreyi, cambodia, howqua, louisa, sparta, fruhstorferi and uemurai sp. nov., which is described from southern Vietnam. S. cambodia editha is synonymized with the nominotypical subspecies of cambodia. The male genitalia of these seven species are also figured.
