Two instances of "bathing" by butterflies are recorded. 1) a, probably spent, Argynni paphia (Nymphalidae) dipped into the heart of a small pond (ca. 150 sq. m.), took "bathe", and flied away into the bush beyond, at p.m. 2.26, Sept. 28, 1958, in Kanazawa-city (Mr. AKIRA TAKETO reported). 2) a seemingly perfect ♂ Papilio xuthus, while having sailed across a brookiet (ca. 15m. wide), suddenly dived into the water as deep as 1 cm. with V-formed wings, skipped up and dipped again five times, until it reached safely to the opposite side, in the afternoon of June 16, 1962, in Mie-prefecture (Mr. MAKOTO MATSUURA reported). The causes for such behavior are to be investigated.
