In the present paper the author has synonymized the following five subspecies. 1. Neozephyrus taxila japonicus (MURRAY, 1875) = Neozephyrus taxila monticola SHIROZU, 1952. syn. nov. Monticola was described by T. SHIROZU from material from the mountainous region of Central Honshu. But a careful study of many specimens has revealed that the characteristics of monticola agreed with those of the small form of japonicus. It should further be noted that the common form, japonicus, was already recorded from the original type locality of monticola in 1933. 2. Favonius saphirinus saphirinus (STAUDINGER, 1887) = Favonius saphirinus nipponicus MURAYAMA, 1953. syn. nov. = Favonius saphirinus jezonicus MURAYAMA, 1953. syn. nov. = Favonius saphirinus oseanus MURAYAMA, 1954. syn. nov. Separating from the continental original species, S. MURAYAMA devided Japanese Favonius saphirinus into three subspecies enumerated above. But an examination of many specimens from various regions of Japan has shown that the subspecific characters described by MURAYAMA were contained within the range of individual variation in the original species. 3. Neozephyrus aurorinus alpinus MURAYAMA, 1954. = Neozephyrus aurorinus kansaiensis MURAYAMA, 1954. syn. nov. Aurorinus from Honshu was distinguished from that of Hokkaido by MURAYAMA and was separated into two subspecies: the one from the northern part of the Chubu district and the other from the western part of the Kinki district. Based on a comparison of many specimens from various regions in Japan, I was led to synonymized kansaiensis because its characters given by MURAYAMA represent no subspecific divergency and should be considered as individual variation, though albinus was recognizable as a good subsnecies.
