Both light and temperature alternations clearly promoted germination of seeds of American and European lawn grasses, Redtop, Highland bentgrass, Astoria bentgrass, Seaside bentgrass, and Bermudagrass. And co-operation of light and temperature alternation gave the highest germination percentage.
In continuous darkness constant high temperature inhibited germination, but light permitted high germination percentage even under censtant high temperature. This result was considered to be same as the sesult which had been shown by Toole E. H. et al. with lettuce seeds.
As the result in this experiment showed that light and tempertature alternation severely affected germination of seeds of American and European lawn grasses, the authors propose that light and temperature alternations should be taken in consideration at least in germination tests with them.
