This is a study on the forms of the
square in the feudal age
Edo. Firstiy, the author presents the idea that the square in the feudal age is able to be classified into two types, the one is
dominated type square which functions as one of the spatial medium by which the feudal lord side dominates the
Gemeinde, and the other is
self-contained tyep square which functions as an important spatial medium by which the members of the
Gemeinde communicate personally and spirituay each other, and the latter type is able to be classified as three types,
nucleus, quasi-nucleus, and
local type.
And secondly, tempering above mentioned functional viewpoint with the spatial character of the original space by which
squre is mediated, the author presents some sub-types of the
square and tries to study some of them. They are as follows:
