The author investigated the pruning of pine trees (P. densiflora and P. Thunbergii) on its quantitative phase, that is, the time required for the pruning, the amount of leaves, and the extent of growth control.
The investigations had been carried out from April, 1964 to December, 1964 at Shugakuin Imperial Villa and Kyoto Fomer Imperial palace.
The results are as follows;
1) The relation between the crown surface area (S m
2) and the time required for autumnal pruning (T hour·man) is formuralized by T=0.214S + 0.1.
2) The extent of the present pruning has almost reached the limit, within which the pine trees can er. d ure the growth control.
