We human beings have no ecological environment of our own as other species do, so, to exist and to survive, have made up our environment, a universe culturally molded. Nature or objective world (what it is in itself) is never known to man, man knows only its cultural interpretation. The art reveals the perceptual world of the culture to which it belongs. Architecture and garden describe, in a sense, the structure of space of the culture. European gardens (except English landscape garden) is a construction with a symbolic center, mathematically composed. Space is perceived visually, and from a single point. Japanese gardens are landscape gardens. The spatial experience is multisensory, and in Kaiyu-siki (go-round style) gardens, kinesthetic exprience is added. The kaiyu-siki garden is a sign for pilgrimage or itinerancy, Japanese favorite tour to perceive the space or the country. Another Japanese garden, miniature garden, also stands for the world.

This study is the analysis of the social background concerning the tree-planting activity of the inhabitants that had appeared from 1975 to 1985 and is the analysis of the process that the activity had been organized. On the base of this study, we shall get th more reasonable systematization method of the tree-planting activity of the inhabitants for the future.
The object of this analysis was 27 town areas. 27 town areas were selected from 9 cities. The Data in order to analysis was the imformation that obtained through the questionaire for the inhabitants and the interview with the representative of the town.
In the matter of the social background, we found it throughout the field survey that the social background bringing about the tree-planting activity was satisfyed with the next conditions. The peoples intention of the settlement is to be strong, the neighborhood is to be very intimate and a Chiyonaikai (neighborhood association) is to be vivasity, and so forth.
The next matter is of the process that the tree-planting activity had been organized. What kind of circumastances, the activity had been organized. The most important fact is to be a good leader in its town. All the acts organizing the tree-planting activity is progressed by the leader. The leader make effort to enlighten the inhabitants about the tree-planting mind, to promote the mutual understanding through several meetings and to arrive at the agreement. The next two facts is very important. One is to be supported by administration from beginning to end in the process of the organization. Another one is the trait of its activity. The tree-planting activity of inhabitants is not a independent organization, but it is the organization that is dependent upon the comprehensive and local organization, so called Chiyonaikai.
Last of all, We hope this study shall be able to contribute to the study on the tree-planting activity of the inhabitants.

To examine the correlations between the impressions of the landscape experienced and the physical environmental factors measured, the respondents evaluated the impressions of the environment at the 15 sites of Nogawa-Park. Simultaneously, the physical factors; brightness, wind speed, temperature, humidity and level of sound, were measured. And the relationships between the impressions and the physical quantities were analyzed and the following results were obtained.
1. The amenity of the site was related to the level of sound and a majority of respondents felt noisy at the level of 60 dB.
2. The congestion of the site was related to the number of people in the sight and a majority of respondents felt congestion at the level of 50 persons in the sight.
3. The impression of windy site was related to the average wind speed and a majority felt the windy at the 2.5 m/s average wind speed. And the impression of brightness of the site was related to the average intensity of illumination and a majority felt the bright at the 50000 lux whole sky illumination.
