    The purpose of this study is to investigate social circumstances, predisposition, and health behavior in 911 women (mean 51.5±11.2 years old) who were examined for breast cancer by mass screening and self examination.
    The results were as follows: 1) The majority of subjects were married housewives, 2) A family history of cancer was found in 45.8%, 3) A past history of complaints and disease of the breast were seen in about 20% each ; the incidence was higher among younger subjects, 4) The rate of mass screening for breast cancer was lower than for other diseases, 5) Among those who underwent mass screening for breast cancer for the first time, the number who had also taken mass screening for gastric, uterine cancer or general health was small, 6) The rate of complaints of a mass in the breast and past history of breast diseases were higher among those who had previously undergone screening for breast cancer.
     Consequently, the factors which seemed to influence health behavior with regard to cancer of the breast were family history of cancer, past history of breast diseases, complaints of the breast, and spare time for the examination. Moreover, most subjects who underwent mass screening for breast cancer had also undergone other mass screening.

    A Study was conducted to clarify the energy expenditure of nursing students while attending lectures, nursing practice and also during holidays. The total daily energy expenditure was calculated from the relationship between heart rate and energy expenditure obtained by recording the heart rate every minute for 24 h. Eleven nursing students participated.
    The results were as follows;
    1) The energy expenditure during lectures, practice and holidays was 1927±348kcal/day, 2133±396kcal/day and 1716±379kcal/day, respectively. Thus the value was obviously highest during nursing practice.
    2) The energy expenditure in the first phase, middle and latter phases of nursing practice was 2048±473kcal/day, 1988±411kcal/day and 1829±391kcal/day, respectively. Thus there was a tendency for the value to decrease as practice progressed.
    3) The energy expenditure per unit body weight while on duty in neurology, pediatrics and gynecology wards was 34.05±4.55kcal/kg/day, 39.71±3.66kcal/kg/day and 48.20±7.30kcal/kg/day, respectively. Thus duty in a gynecology ward resulted in the highest energy expenditure.
    4) The daily living activity index for lecture, practice and holiday periods was 0.41±0.28, 0.56±0.30 and 0.36±0.32, respectively. Lecture and holiday periods were classified as intensity number I, and practice periods as intensity number II.

    The purpose of this study is to observe attitude of the students in a nursing college before the lecture "Psychiatric Nursing Practice" to the mental patients as well as their anxiety measured by CAS test and STAI. Observing 53 students' free description of the report written, 5 factors were obtained by the factor analysis. As the relation between the result of CAS test and STAI of the students and the factors were investigated, the results were as follows,
    1. 5 factors were observed, subjective observation factor, subjective assistant factor, subjective sympathetic factor, objective assistant factor, and objective observation factor.
    The students were in readiness for psychiatric nursing by the knowledge on the mental disorder.
    2. The students with low credability didn't describe the attitude toward mental disease people and keep hesitating toward them.
    3. It seems that the students with high anxiety state didn't express the positive attitude toward the mental disordered.
    4. The students with high anxiety trait didn't express the subjective attitude toward the mental disordered.
    5. The students with high anxiety state especially before the practice showed immatured and less credability, self-control, adaptability with labile sentiment. It seems that the reason why the students who were immatured didn't express the attitude to the mental disordered would be posessed no experience of them.
