    The pain of the patient is strongly concerned to not only the disease but also the personality. This study was attempted to identify the relationship between the pain and the personality of five patients with maxillar cancer in the Chiba Cancer Center Hospital from December 22, 1977 to January 12, 1979. We determined the personality by the Yatabe-Guilford test (YG) and the Manifest Anxiety Scales (MAS), to them at the pre-operative, post-operative stages (before and after the discharge of the hospital). We examined the frequency of analgesia administration in order to measure the degree of the pain. And also, we studied the nursing record to know the nursing process.
    Result:
    1) The YG and MAS revealed the personality of patient being changed by the operation, such as: after the operation showed the personality in the original nature, the decrease of the personality in the original nature, the decrease of the physiological anxiety scale as well as the increase of the social anxiety scale.
    2) The frequency of analgesia administration was depended upon the operation method and nursing care.
    Discussion:
    When patients are suffered the continuing pain for a long time duration, a nurse should care them to subside the pain instead of administrating analgesia, by comprehension of patient's personality.

    On the last stage of the cancer patient, they become conspicuously unstable with conflict of fear and anxiety about their dying, not only with the pain of disease.
    Our studies have shown the important factors in the nursing process how we give them implications of attitude towards the death. The present paper includes one of the series of our studies, analysing the problems of 43 cases of the cancer patient who were in the CHIBA CANCER CENTER HOSPITAL during April 1977 to August 1979. They were all on the last stage and 56-84 years of age, died in the hospital.
    High frequency (71-73%) was observed of them being understanding the situation of their dying. Compared with the younger age (under 60 years of age), the older age group showed less conflict of living-will with anxiety about dying, rather on the attitude of accepting the death peacefully. Then, the case of unstably dying was considered as the physical pain and the social isolation their family &C. And the physical pain was increased much strongly by the anxiety of it as forming circuls viciosus. Beside, the older group was showing the attitude of less expressing their complainments of the pain or anxiety to nurses by their negative living style of dying acceptance.

    Recently it has been said that there are many anemic women. We investigated the relationship among anemia, the specific gravity of whole blood cells and diet life of female college students on the basis of the results of both the clinical profiles of their blood cells and the questionnaire about their actual dietetic state.
    The results obtained were as follows.
    1. As the criterion for female anemia, we took the assumption that the number of red blood cells is less than 3,800,000/mm3 and hemoglobin value is less than 12.0gr/dl, and we estimated how many anemic women have the symptoms for each level of specific gravity of blood cells from 1.045 to 1.060. As a results, we observed that a big change occurs in the frequency of appearance at the values of 1.049 and 1.054, respectively.
    2. There is a remarkable correlation among anemia, the number of red blood cells, hemoglobin and hematocrit values, respectively.
    3. We could not recognize clearly the relation between the results of examination of blood cells and the actual taking of food, including much iron.
    4. When we compared anemic female college students suffering from iron deficiency anemia with normal students, it was clear that the former had less inclination to eat fish including shellfish, meat and beans. And so, it is particularly important for women suffering from a condition of iron deficiency to take high protein food, such as the above mentioned foods.

    The relationship between the patients' daily living attitude and its determinant factors was studied.
    Time study and the Index of daily activity were examined of 39 patients in medical wards.
    The results were obtained as follows;
    1) The time when the patient was on the bed was averaged about 16 hours a day. Index of daily activity was estimated as 0.22, which meant rather the light activity of the daily living.
    2) One factor determining Index of daily activity was the expression style of doctors' instruction toward the patient. The expressions "Rest-in-bed", "Need-not-rest" were so much effective that the patients would obey without unanimity.
