To obtain laser oscillations from easily dissociative molecules on discharge excitation, a transverse-flow FIR laser tube was designed and constructed. A flowing gas region of about 35
cm long is located inside a 50
cm F-P resonator in this tube.
Infrared-active formaldehyde as a sample gas, laser oscillation was observed at the wavelength of 122.8±0.2 μ
m under the conditions of the flow speed from 0.2 to 1.0
m/
sec and the pressure from 0.4 to 2.8
Torr. Peak voltage from 1.8 to 5.9
kV was applied with the etition of 8.5
Hz.
