JOURNAL FREE ACCESSGas mixture of 1 : 100 BCl3 and Xe is blown against a cold plate to form a solid film.This sample is irradiated by a cw CO2 laser.After several hours of irradiation, it is found from infrared spectra that 11BCl3 molecules are excited selectively and are educed on the cold plate as fine crystals.This phenomenon is considered to be due to laser-induced migration of 11BCl3 molecules through Xe matrix.As Xe sublimates, 10BCl3 molecules are released from the cold plate so that 11BCl3 is enriched on the plate. The value of the separation factor obtained with 3.3 watt laser radiation is estimated to be8.4.View full abstractDownload PDF (957K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSA new class of holography, which utilizes a guided wave as the reference and/or the reconstructing (illuminating) waves, is proposed for the purpose of the hologramintegration. The hologram, designated as “Waveguide Hologram” by the authors, reconstructs signal waves by the principle of the grating output coupler in the integratedoptics. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe performance characteristics of a transversly excited gas transport CO2 laseroperating up to a pressure of 760 torr are presented. The measured spatial distri-butions of unsaturated gain agree well with those calculated from an electron density distribution. The pressure dependence of unsaturated gain and saturation parameter was determined experimentally. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe recently developed technique of molecular beamepitaxy makes it feasible togrow multilayer structures with thickness control of a few angstroms. This opens thepossibility for a new generation of optical devices based on propagation through and reflection from periodic layered media.
In my talk I will describe the theoretical tools developed for this purpose. The concepts of Bloch waves and energy gaps for optical propagation will be described. New optical phenemena and devices which are predicted in such structure will be considered.View full abstractDownload PDF (990K) -
