To investigate the characteristics of an electric discharge CO
2 mixing gasdynamic laser, a coaxial supersonic screen nozzle array is tentatively designed. Isentropic relations on gas flow are assumed for the design of conical and coaxial nozzles. A small signal gain coefficient andflow parameters were measured. Further numerical analysis on the small signal gain was made by assuming a steady, inviscid, quasi-one-dimensional vibrationally nonequilibrium flow, and a three-mode relaxational model with a constant discharge efficiency. Measured and calculated results show that this supersonic mixing CO
2 electric discharge laser can achieve high-gain operation.
