Data and analytics to gain insights are key to successful digital transformation (DX). There are large
amounts of data generated by individuals, IoT (Internet of Things), and organizations. Due to security
and privacy concerns, currently these data are siloed or inaccessible, even though there is a strong motivation
to utilize data across organizations to obtain valuable data analytics driven insights. To overcome
this situation, the network is expected to not only securely transfer data end-to-end, but also to transfer
the appropriate original and/or analyzed data required to fit its purpose in a decentralized way. We call
this data centric networking. In this review, we describe a holistic view of the network’s role in DX on
cyber physical systems and also introduce our recent activities on blockchain-based data exchange systems,
a key building block of data centric networking to accelerate DX.
