The beam distortion taking place in such a was found to cause considerable errors in the values of g0 and Is obtained using the equation
In G=g0L-1/Is (G-1) IinIn the case of a CO2 waveguide laser of 2 mmφ bore and 10 cm discharge length, the error amounts to as high as 18% for g0 and the latter 25% for Is. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSA simultaneous two-wavelength dye laser was developed as a flashlamp pumped one, and applied to a DIAL system. As tuning elements, dielectric multilayer filters were used in laser cavities. The widths and intensities of. spectra in the filter tuning were half and doubled respectively, as compared with those of a doubleprism tuning. Maximum intensities were obtained as the temperature of the dye solution was 15-16°C, and at that time the temperature difference between the dye solution and the cooling water was -0.4--1.0°C. Simultaneous two-wavelength DIAL system was constructed by using this dye laser, and the difference of absorption cross-section of 1.6 x 10-23 m2 was obtained for NO2 at a pair of wavelengths 463.1 nm (on-resonance) and 465.8 nm (off-resonance). In the field test, the NO2 concentration of 7ppm was observed with 75m range resolution by averaging 50 signals at the center of a stack plume.View full abstractDownload PDF (821K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSOzone concentrations in an altitude range of 3-28 km were determined with a resolution of 1.5 km by a differential absorption lidar (DIAL) based on excimer lasers. Emission from a XeCl laser (308 nm) and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) of CH4 (S2: 290.4 nm) and H2 (S1: 277 nm, S2: 313 nm) pumped by a KrF laser was used. It is shown that excimer lasers and SRS pumped by excimer lasers (Excimer-SRS) are more useful and practical than frequency-doubled dye lasers in DIAL observation of atmospheric ozone, because Excimer-SRS has a simple configuration, high average power and a high repetition rate.View full abstractDownload PDF (694K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe thin-film warm carrier device which has a 0.1μm-diam pinhole electric contact was fabricated by electron beam lithographic method associated with ion-beams.
The detected properties for CO2 laser radiation were measured. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSVarious aspects of stimulated rotational Raman scattering of a TEA-CO2 laser in para-H2 are studied with a liquid-N2 cooled multiple-pass cell. Line-tunable output from 13 to 30 μm is obtained by generating the 1st and 2nd Stokes waves. The 1st Stokes output energies for the 10 μm band pumping increase in proportion to the increase of the pump energies and the maximum conversion efficiency reaches 80%. On the other hand, the increase of the lst Stokes output for the 9 μm band pumping is limited because of generation of the 2nd Stokes wave. Beam crossing effect which is an important factor for achievement of high conversion efficiency in a multiple pass cell is analysed by numerical simulation. In addition, efficient conversion with the use of roomtemperature H2 is realised by improving optical condition.View full abstractDownload PDF (1161K) -
