During hot seasons, parasols or hats are used to avoid the heat rays of the sun. We made experiments concerning the heat insulation of parasols, using an artificial light source.
The materials used in the experiments were: ordinary parasol cloth, double layered (white outer and black lining), black curtain cloth, silver foil, thin cotton cloth, etc.
The reflectance, absorption, transmittance, cover factors, air permeability etc, were obtained by making model experiments using an IR lamp.
The results obtained are as follows :
1) Materials with small reflectance, small transmittance, large absorption, large cover factors, and small air permeability show superior heat insulation as parasols.
2) The good order of the heat insulation property of parasols are: silver foil, double layered, white thick cloth, black curtain-cloth, black linen cloth, white linen cloth, black thin cotton cloth, and white thin cotton cloth.
