For the selected years of 1830 (Edo-period) and 1880 (Meiji-period) the percentage of greenery within the urban structure was calculated. The study shows, that the city of Edo of 1830 got a rate of 43% of greenery space within a circle of 12km from the center, the city of Tokyo in 1880 got 36% within the same range. And, 1965 this rate was a little less than 17%. The reason of this decrease cannot be seem clue to leagal regurations on the water-system and land-shape.
