YOKOHAMA CITY'S ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN SYSTEM (GENERALLY SPEAKING COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN SYSTEM), ESTAB-LISHED IN 1973, AIMS AT CREATION OF OPEN SPACES TO THE PUBLIC, THAT IS, WALKING AND RESTING SPACES FOR PEDESTRI-ANS IN PRIVATE BUILDING SITE FOR RELAXATION OF THE BUILDING RESTRICTION (FLOOR AREA RATIO AND BUILDING HEIGHT). IN 1985 THE SYSTEM PERMITTED THE EXISTING WOODED AREA PRESERVED IN A PRIVATE SITE AS ONE OF OPEN SPACES TO THE PUBLIC. MOST WOODED AREAS ARE LOCATED ON VERY STEEPER SLOPES. SO THEY ARE UNDERESTIMATED , BECAUSE OF BEING INFERIOR TO WALKING AND RESTING SPACES FOR PEDESTRIANS IN PUBLICITY AND ACCESSIBILITY. THE AUTHORS STRESS THE NEED TO ESTIMATE HIGHLY WOODED AREAS FROM THE VIEWPOINT OF ECOLOGY AND VISUAL AMENITY FOR CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESIDUALS IN DENSED URBAN AREAS.

AFTER THE WORLD WAR II, NATIONAL PARKWAY IN THE U.S.A. HAD BEEN A MODEL OF ROADS LOCATED IN SCENIC AREAS IN JAPAN. HOWEVER, IT COULD NOT WORK OUT WELL. THIS STUDY AIMS TO CLARIFY TRANSITION OF CONCEPT ON PLANNING AND DESIGNING OF ROADS IN SCENIC AREAS IN JAPAN. IN LATE 1950'S, SOME ROADS WERE CONSTRUCTED WITH CONCEPT OF NATIONAL PARKWAY IN JAPAN. HOWEVER, THEY WERE LACK OF CONCEPT OF INTRODUCING REGIONAL HISTORY AND CULTURE WITH "STOP", LANDSCAPING ALONG ROADS, OR LAND-USE CONTROL. INSTEAD WE ATTEMPTED TO DEVELOP ATTRACTION OF ROADS IN SCENIC AREAS MAINLY IN ENJOYING PROMINENT NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND GRAND SPECTACLE. THAT ESSENTIALLY CAUSED DESTRUCTION OF NATURAL ENVIRONMENT, AND SOCIAL DENIAL OF FURTHER CONSTRUCTION.

FOR THIS PURPOSE, BASED ON HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS, PICTURES AND PHOTOGRAPHS, INTERVIEW SURVEY, ETC., CHRONOLOGICAL INFORMATION ON THE INTRODUCTION OF SEA-BATHING INTO JAPAN, THE LOCATION OF THOSE HOTELS, AND THEIR CHANGE OF LAND USE WERE ANALYZED. THE COMPARATIVE STUDY WAS CONDUCTED AND THE MAIN FINDINGS ARE AS FOLLOWS; DR. MATSUMOTO AIMED AT MEDICAL EFFECTS PRODUCED BY THE WAVES DASHING AGAINST THE BODY, AND SO HIS HOTEL WAS LOCATED CLOSE BY THE SEASIDE TO APPROACH THERE EASILY. ON THE OTHER HAND, DR. THE MUNICIPAL MASTER PLAN WAS INTRODUCED BY THE 1992 AMENDMENT OF THE CITY PLANNING ACT AND WAS ADDED TO THE EXISTING SUCH PLANS AS THE POLICY OF IMPROVEMENT, DEVELOPMENT AND CONSERVATION AND THE MUNICIPAL COMPREHENSIVE PLAN. THIS STUDY AIMS TO IDENTIFY IMAGE OF RAILROAD LINE AREA THROUGH AN APPLICATION OF LOGMAP MODEL. THE IMAGE OF TWO KEIO RAILROAD LINE AREAS ARE COMPARED WITH EACH OTHER; MAIN LINE AND BRANCH LINE. THE IMAGE SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED FOR OBTAINING THE DATA OF SIMILARITY AMONG THE NOUNS RELATED TO THOSE AREAS UNDER STUDY. THIS LOGMAP CAN EXPRESS A PERCEIVED MENTAL MAPPING BASED ON THE CONCEPT OF THE ORDERED LOGIT MODEL OF SIMILARITY OF IMAGE FOR NOUNS. THE RESULT SHOWS THAT THERE EXISTS THE DIFFERENCE IN IMAGE BETWEEN THE MAIN LINE AND THE BRANCH LINE. IT ALSO IMPLIES THAT THIS TECHNIQUE IS EFFECTIVE FOR QUANTITATIVELY DESCRIBING A IMAGE MAPPING OF RAILROAD LINE AREA.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY IS ESTABLISHMENT OF A SEARCH METHOD FOR VIEWPOINTS WITH PICTURESQUE VIEWS BY ARRANGING OPERATIONAL ELEMENTS SYSTEMATICALLY, CONCERNING THE LANDSCAPE OF WATER AND GREENERY. WE EXAMINED WITH RELEVANCE TO THE REAL LANDSCAPE, 275HA DEVELOPMENT AREA USING 20 METERS MESH DATA. AFTER SETTING UP VIEWPOINTS, WE TOOK PHOTOGRAPHS USING A 50MM NORMAL LENS, AND EXAMINED THEM IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE CONDITIONS OF VIEWPOINTS AND LANDSCAPE ELEMENTS. FORMATION RATIO OF LANDSCAPE ELEMENTS SELECTED BY FIELD SURVEY IS USED FOR DEVELOPMENT OF A SUPPLEMENTARY PROGRAM.

NOW THIS STUDY TREATS FOR EVALUATION AND PLANNING OF TOWNSCAPE IN HISTORICAL CITIES. I HAVE STATISTICALLY INVESTIGATED INTO CHECKING OF HEIGHT CONTROL ZONING BY CONTROL LINE METHOD AND PHOTOGRAPHIC SURVEYING ON TOWNSCAPE IN KAMAKURA CITY. I HAVE DRAWN A MAP OF HEIGHT LIMIT ZONING (8M, 10M, 15M) FOR LAND USE DISTRICT AND PRESERVATION AREA. I HAVE FURTHER MORE CHECKED POSSIBILITY OF SCENERY SPACE AT MOUNTAIN SKYLINE AREA IN VISTA FOR CONDITION COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN OF 3 DIMEN -SIONAL ANALYSIS. AS THE RESULT, I HAVE RECOGNIZED PROPRIETY OF INSENTIVE HEIGHT CONTROL ZONING FOR 8M LINE IN RESIDENTIAL AREA AND 15M LINE IN COMMERCIAL AREA.

THIS STUDY COMPARE RURAL SETTLEMENTS WITH HOUSING ESTATE WHICH MADE IN MODERN TIMES, ON A CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ENCLOSURE MADE BY AN ARRANGEMENT OF BUILDING, AND MAKE A CHARACTERISTICS OF ROAD SPACE AT RURAL SETTLEMENTS CLEAR. THE RESULTS ARE AS FOLLOWS. ABOUT DISTANCES OF BUILDING OF ROAD CROSSING DIRECTION AND OF ROAD VERTICAL SECTION DIRECTION, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RURAL SETTLEMENTS AND HOUSING ESTATE IS SMALL. WE SEE A BIG VALUE IN RURAL SETTLEMENTS. EXISTENCE OF FARMLAND IN A VILLAGE AFFECTS IT. THE ANGLE BETWEEN THING OF ROAD AND BUILDING IS DIFFERENT FROM RURAL SETTLEMENTS WITH HOUSING ESTATE. THE ANGLE OF RURAL SETTLEMENTS IS FULL OF A CHANGE. AS THIS REASON, INFLUENCE OF GAP FOR A DIRECTION OF CENTER LINE OF A ROAD AND INFLUENCE BY A CURVE OF ROAD ARE THOUGHT ABOUT. THIS STUDIES SHOWED THE ABOVE ITEM QUANTITATIVELY.

THIS PAPER AIMS TO GIVE INFORMATION ABOUT UNIFICATION AND VARIATION OF THE ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS WHICH ARE BUILDING HEIGHT, WINDOW, ORNAMENTS, MATERIAL, AND COLOR, ANALYZING THE STREET WALL OF GRABEN STREET IN THE CENTER OF VIENNA. THE ANALYSIS IS BASED ON THE BUILDING NUMBER AND ON THE ENSEMBLE'S DEVELOPMENT COMPAIRING THE SITUATAION OF THE YEARS 1914, 1955, 1975 AND 1994. THIS SHOULD SHOW THE QUANTITY OF BORDERLINE ALTERATION BETWEEN NEIGHBORING BUILDINGS AND THE CHANGING OF QUALITATIVE CHARACTER. IN THAT WAY THE UNIFICATION AND THE VARIATION CAN BE REALIZED AT THE SAME TIME. THE CONCLUSIONS ARE, FOR EXAMPLE, THE FOLLOWING; 1)THE BORDER OF BUILDING HEIGHT IS 0.66 TIMES AS HIGH AS THE AVERAGE OF THE STORY IN GRABEN STREET, 2) THE BORDER OF WINDOW'S SIZE IS 0.85 M2, AND 3) HUE AND CHROMA CAUSE UNIFICATION, CHROMA CAUSES VARIATION.

PARKING DESIGN HAS BECOME QUITE IMPORTANT ELEMENT IN URBAN DESIGN IN RECENT YEARS. IN THIS PAPER, THE AUTHORS ARGUED HOW TO IMPROVE THE LANDSCAPING OF SURFACE CAR PARKING. USING QUESTIONNAIRE SURVEY WITH PICTURES PRODUCED BY VISUAL SIMULATION SYSTEM, THE RESIDENTS' PREFERENCE TOWARD PARKING DESIGN IS INVESTIGATED. THE ALTERNATIVES OF PLANTING AND FENCE ARE RATED FROM THE VIEWPOINT OF USERS, NEIGHBORS OF PARKING AND PASSERSBY. FACTORS AFFECTING RESIDENTS' PREFERENCE ARE ANALYZED AND THE PRIORITY OF EACH FACTOR IS OBSERVED. AS A RESULT OF THIS SURVEY, THE AUTHORS COULD FOUND THAT LANDSCAPED PARKING, NAMELY, REINFORCED AND GRASS-SURFACED PARKING, OR PARKING ENCLOSED BY TREES AND SHRUBS, IS PREFERRED BY RESIDENTS.

THE INTERACTIVE MOVING 3-DIMENSION STEREOGRAM SIMULATION IS TAKEN AS METHODOLOGY. THE RESULT IS AS FOLLOWS :(1) THERE ARE TWO GROUPS HAVE DIFFERENT ESTIMATION CHARACTERISTICS. (2) THE ESTIMATION OF ABOUT 80% OF SUBJECTS IS EXPLAINED BY FOLLOWING EXPRESSION : F=-0.31X-0.20Y+9.17 (3) THE ESTIMATION OF ABOUT 20% OF SUBJECTS IS EXPLAINED BY FOLLOWING EXPRESSION : F=-0.15Y-0.12Z+10.17 (F: CONTINUITY, X : VARIED QUANTITY OF HEIGHT (M) , Y : VARIED QUANTITY OF SETBACK (M) , Z : VARIED QUANTITY OF WIDTH (M)) . THE MOVING 3-DIMENSION STEREOGRAM SIMULATION CAUSES MORE VARIOUS ESTIMATION BECAUSE INFORMATION IS MORE INCREASE THAN FIXED PICTURE.
