In this paper, the authors clarified the current situations and the organization systems of Bus Rapid Transit in advanced cities, Bogotá, Jakarta, Seoul and Curitiba, based on the existing data and interview survey. The authors aimed to compare the revelations about planning, management and operation stage of urban public transportation focused on the background, finance resources and so on. In addition, we considered the directivity of urban bus transit planning and explained with an example about the ideal assigning tasks of municipalities and private transit companies in Japan.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate public benefit from cultural townscape in Takayama city. Takayama city has conserved old city district as "Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Historic Buildings" from 1979. Public benefit from this area may affect not only residents in Takayama city but also non residents (tourists, residents nearby cities in Gifu prefecture, residents out of Gifu prefecture). We conducted double-bounded dichotomous choice contingent valuation surveys in Takayama city, Gifu prefecture, and Tokyo to determine households' willingness to pay (WTP) for maintaining public benefit from this area. The surveys concluded that aggregate WTP of tourist is about 31.8 billion yen and aggregate WTP of resident is about 69.8 billion yen.

To create a good urban form, it is significant to correlate buildings, streets and open spaces. This paper aims to clarify a comprehensive methodology of urban space design through analysis of a residential development project on the master plan and spatial structure. The case is Makuhari Baytown, a newly developed 8900-unit residential district in Chiba coastal area, which created harmonious urban space with housing blocks of middle, high and super-high rise along grid street pattern and belts of open space. While the master plan, design guidelines and design coordination have been said to be key, the master plan played a fundamental role to give a background to the others and to form a framework of collaboration of urban planning, architecture, civil engineering and landscape design.

This paper aims to construct WebGIS for the local environmental study that can be used in all school years in the elementary school and community, and to verify the effect. As a result, it was clarified to be able to support systematic learning of the local environment according to the developmental stage of each school year. The student had promoted the understanding of the local environment relationship by cooperative learning the outcome of another school year by using WebGIS. Many of parents think that study of the school can be supported through WebGIS if there is a chance. The board of education manages WebGIS, and the system of community collaboration is necessary to promote the local environmental study

Urban railway station has played a major role in a spatial and functional integration concerning the space around station. However, the space of station and its surroundings is quite unsatisfactory for citizens. In the background, there is the fact that the undertaker who builds and managers each facility is different. In this study, we attempt to analyze the relational structures of meanings between total evaluations and each evaluation in the space of station and its surroundings. In order to select the target station, 86 stations of southwest district of Tokyo Metropolitan area are classified into 8 groups by cluster analysis. According to this classification, 8 stations are selected for questionnaire survey and analyzed those data to clear the citizens' consciousness.

We deal with the effect of diagonal roads, which is introduced into a city that has a rectangular lattice road network, on travel distance reduction and traffic flow reduction. Distribution of distance between pairs of points and geographical distribution of traffic flow under 4-directional routing system, rectilinear routing system, and that with diagonal roads are calculated in this paper. Comparison with the rectilinear routing system in a square city shows that diagonal roads can reduce mean travel distance by more than 10 percent. Average travel distance is drastically reduced at the center and at the four corners. It is also found that diagonal roads also contribute to traffic relaxation by absorbing almost one third of whole traffic flow, although the traffic flow keep same amount at the center.

This study aims to analyze tourists' consumer satisfaction (CS) via the Bayesian ordered probit model. The model is introduced in order to identify correlation between tourists' individual attributes, travel behaviors and CS. Tourists' CS survey conducted in Kamakura city is employed for the analysis. Model parameters are estimated by using Gibbs sampling which is one of the major methods of Markov-chain Monte Carlo simulation. Marginal effects are calculated in order to indicate relationship between tourists overall travel satisfaction by travel purpose, spots, tourists' attributes and related tourists' CS quantitatively. It is shown that the MCMC ordered probit model has advantages comparing with the ordered probit model via the maximum likelihood method when evaluating CS by considering tourists' subjective.

The use of renewable energy is receiving increasing attention to deal with the recent energy problems or environmental problems. Since the renewable energy is the individual dispersed style energy in region, original tackling is possible. Promoting use of renewable energy can be valid for regional activation. However, the actual conditions of renewable energy in region are not always clear until now. This paper focuses on "renewable energy vision in region"which each local government planned and I consider the actual conditions and promoting factors of renewable energy projects that tackle in each region.
