In this study, we focused on the effect of the subjective's regionality on the evaluation for Machiya-Cafe facade in Kyoto and Takayama. The purpose of our study is to establish a design system of Machiya-Cafe facade in historical tourist city. Firstly, we made forty digital images of Machiya-Cafe facade which differed in the components, lattice, shoji (paper screen) and plants. Next, we conducted the subjective experiment on the evaluation of Machiya-Cafe facade. Eighteen females who live in Kyoto-city and eighteen females who live in Gifu prefecture were chosen as the subjects in this experiment. They evaluated "Recognition", "Entarability", "Restfulness", "Regionality", "Preference" and "Appropriateness". As a result, there are differences in the evaluation of "Regionality", "Preference" and "Appropriateness" on some characteristic Machiya-cafe facade.

The Quality-Stock is a concept for district design to achieve Low-Carbon City. The model has been developed to evaluate the three requirements of the Quality-Stock, namely, long-lifespan, high quality of life (QOL) and low CO2 emission and cost. The model enables planners and urban designers 1) to evaluate the residents' QOL based on spatial composition and building equipment status, 2) to predict redevelopments dynamically, and 3) to estimate the amount of CO2 emission and urban maintenance cost. The model was applied to evaluate the potential outcome of the district vision for Nishiki 2 District, located in the urban center of Nagoya City, Japan. The result indicates that the coordinated redevelopment of the district can contribute to the extension of building lifespan, the improvement of residents' QOL and the reduction of CO2 emission throughout the entire process of urban transformation.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss design control system for the historic area in the small towns. In order to understand these issues, we then decided to carry out a research projects in the three small towns in the 'Land Hessen', Germany. We found several official documents on the design guideline of the three cities and we conducted interview to the technocrats and architects who are contributing to the conserving historical areas of the small towns. We analyzed following subjects of the three cities; 1) types of design control system, 2) backgrounds of design control system, 3) concrete examples of the renovation projects in these towns. As a result, we understood some critical issues on design control system with current urban-design and, we realized importance of discussions for the conservation projects among the specialists and clients in relation with authenticity of the conservation projects.

This paper aims to clarify the relationship between the Images of townscapes and the local characteristics. The conclusions are as follows: 1) the Images of townscapes described by magazines are classified into 18 elements such as "Looks old and historic", "Range to be able to walk around", and so on. Tourist attractions with townscapes are classified into five types by "Image of town". 2) The local characteristics in the Tourist attractions with townscapes are classified into four types by the indicators of their population, transportations at that time, and so on. 3) Difference in the number of description in magazines is determined by the local activity for the townscapes. It is also important to announce the reputation of their town to inhabitants.

This study aimed to get some hints to introduce and manage the bicycle sharing systems effectively in the context of tourism. The information required for this study was collected on the Internet, followed by a questionnaire survey of the organizers. The areas were classified into several types and a temporal and spatial analysis was conducted with GIS. The findings are as follows: (1) the bicycle sharing systems are introduced in 73 out of 317 municipalities in which tourism is the main purpose in 49 municipalities; (2) the rate of adoption becomes higher in areas with many tourist attractions; (3) although 80% of the organizers expect the bicycle sharing systems to improve the local transportation, the facilities are not provided in most of the areas, and (4) the ways to implement effective management are determined by the types of areas.

In this paper, we analyze the effects of spatial aspects in the city center on pedestrian behaviors using the probe person data. Probe person (PP) data enables us to analyze activities of people with location data gotten by GPS (Global Positioning Systems). This research implements 1) the analysis of people activities in the city center, 2) and pedestrian behavior inner zone, 3) and examination of the relationship between spatial aspects and behaviors by estimating the model using voronoi-based overlay networks. As a result, we show that the dispersion and scenery of parking lots in the city center have the bad impact on .pedestrian behaviors.
