High-temperature phase transitions in KH2PO4 near 110°C and 180°C have been studied by X-ray diffraction. The extinction rule observed at 123°C is the same as that in the room-temperature phase. It is concluded that on heating through 187°C crystal system changes from tetragonal to monoclinic whose space group is P21 or P21m. The lattice parameters at 195°C are given by a=7.47Å, b=7.33Å, c=14.49Å, α=β=90° and γ=92.2°.

It has been found that in NH4LiSO4 another transition point 186.5°C exists in addition to the already known one 10°C and this substance is ferroelectric between these two transition points. Anomalies of dielectric constant at the transition points are very small as compared with those of proper ferroelectrics. The Curie-Weiss law holds within a narrow temperature range in the phase above the upper transition, where the Curie constant has a very small value of 5.6 K. Moreover the spontaneous polarization shows a curious increase with lowering temperature. Thus NH4LiSO4 can be said to be one of improper ferroelectrics.

The electrostatic instabilities driven by a current perpendicular to an external magnetic field are studied for a homogeneous Vlasov plasma of cold electrons and hot ions. The ions are assumed magnetized. This assumption is allowed for a E×B rotating plasma in which the cross-field current flows for a much longer time than the ion cyclotron period. A new instability of reactive type is found to occur by the coupling of an electron acoustic mode and a Doppler-shifted ion cyclotron mode (in the electron frame).

The velocity fluctuation noise is observed in the nematic liquid crystal MBBA at various voltages. It is found that the noise amplitude shows a maximum at the point where a new dissipative structure appears. The validity of the central limit theorem is confirmed by the fact that the histograph of the noise becomes the Gaussian type of distribution in our case.
