We quantitatively determined the mineral contents in daily meals taken at welfare institutions for children and for elderlies in suburban districts of Osaka. The daily intake of minerals for children and elderlies were respectively estimated as; calcium, 567mg, 488mg; phosphorus, 1, 070mg, 844gm; magnesium, 209mg, 167mg; iron, 12.2mg, 8.6mg; potassium, 1, 443mg, 1, 172mg; and sodium, 4, 632mg and 3, 674mg. These results suggest that calcium is insufficient and phosphorus excessive in daily meals taken by children and elderlies living in welfare institutions in the above districts.
