Despite the world-wide spread of modern design, some products in the third world show different attitudes from ours, sometimes, an antithesis to the modern ones. This paper discusses "Jeepney" which is unique public transportation vehicle in the Philippines, and discusses its evolution and production methods and people's acceptance of the vehicle based upon survey and questionnaire. As a result, it was found that "Jeepney" has developed from US military jeep, rebuilding its structure and adding their colonial decorations after World War II. The Jeepney's design has become an indigenous vehicle which was not ruled by our modern design philosophy, and has grown to a level of folk art. In spite of the majority's sympathy with Jeepney, it has been found that some private car users are in antagonism to the vehicle because it causes traffic congestion, air pollution and so on.
