The primary purpose of this study was to enhance the collaborative idea generation under online communication and to find out the motivational synergy. We have hypothesized that the group thinking is influenced by its environments, especially whether it is synchronous or asynchronous. In order to find out our results, we set up a couple of experiments and have examined the process of group thinking and the effect of their stimuli in the environments. We have focused the collaborative idea finding by group. To enable efficient ways of cooperation, these collaborative processes need to be supported by internet, in particular, when cooperation takes place with locally dispersed groups. We have adopted brainstorming as a typical tool for group thinking, and the Creative Group Thinking System (CGTS) as a Computer-Supported Environment (CSE). The creative idea generation process and the Synergistic Extrinsic Motivator (SEM) for group have reviewed. By measuring the differences of creativity between online and offline, verbal and visual thinking, and with stimuli and without stimuli, we found that the SEM conduces to the creativity of the collaborative idea generation on the web.

Cognitive structure of the beauty of Bonsai in the human brain is modeled in three layers. First layer is the beauty itself. Second layer consists of sensory factors of beauty that are obtained as a result of factor analysis using semantic differential method for fifteen objects of Bonsai conducted for nineteen subjects. Third layer consists of statistically calculated shape/force numerical factors including stress of trunk, area of trunk and leaves and width of trunk. Stress of the trunk is calculated by finite element analysis. Relationship between the second and third layer is obtained by analysis of correlation. As a result, test subjects are divided into two groups. One group is the "simple" group which cognizes beauty of Bonsai by symmetry. Other group is the "complex" group which cognizes beauty of Bonsai by symmetry, size and internal force. An example of the relationship between the cognition of beauty and the mechanical structure is shown.

In this paper the authors discuss the methodology of eco design process based on a case study which compare "Branntwein" and "Sake" to preserve earth environment. Following assertion can be made: (1) Both "Branntwein" and "Sake" corresponded to having changed from the product of, so to speak, accidental discovery to the industrial manufacture based on many scientific technology, and the container has varied from the hand processed goods of a natural material to the industrial production article. (2) Although once custom to drink "Branntwein" and "Sake" is restricted by occasion and a class, in the popularization process of Sake and Branntwein, the abandonment container is manufactured in large quantities, and became typical product in consumption culture especially in Japan. (3) In central Europe, containers that made of such as metal, glass, and pottery, are also used regularly until today, and requirements, such as its recovery and purpose for spending, are incorporated in the process of a container design. (4) In Japan it is important to give a position to the concept which involved in "kayoitsubo" that was once popular in daily life in Japan, and by improving design process, package should promote the "user", not "consumer". (5) "Cultural Custmization" is appropriate concept for designer to create ecological society.

Socially acceptable electric vehicles are required that solve the environmental and energy problem of the traffic. The concept making and design procedure for an electric vehicle was shown to realize a high performance with new merits. New component technology including Li-ion battery and original system technology such as a tandem suspension system were invented. These have potential to give high power, comfort and wide space in the cabin in an electric vehicle. A passenger car for high class users in the official apply was selected to employ these technologies most effectively. An eight seater with a wide flat and lower floor cabin design was originated, developed by scale models and a 1/1 scale mock up was visualized. Using this concept design the final real running prototype electric vehicle was constructed. The cabin space was 5.25m in length, 1.28m in height and 1.55m in width, which is 1.5 times larger than that of the same outer sized internal combustion engine car that is measured to be 6.7m in length, 1.67m in height and 1.95m in width. The wheel lay-out of two pairs with distance of 1.45m and two pairs with limited distance of 0.7m is calculated for the most efficient seat arrangement upon a limited distance of 6.7m for the 8 passengers. 6 swing doors, crushable zones of 0.8m in the front and 0.65m space in the rear is situated to realize the most comfortable and safe packaging design. Moreover the final result of a high speed electric vehicle of 311km/h with its high power of 600hp appeared.

The term packaging has become popular in several fields. In this case we pretend to concentrate in packages as a meaning of wrapping. As we see the social changes that had occured during the 19th and 20th century, we can approach to a better understanding of the development of packages. The advances in technological and service aspects have been deeply related to social changes and particularly to wars. The evolution of the user has leaded to a user that require even more convenience as their lives have been twisted by the lack of time. Time-saving solutions become a strong pillar of society and with that, the search of solutions to provide a more comfortable life. One-portion packages are increasingly found in the market to accompany the change on the family unit and life-style.

In the field of packaging design, there are many definitions that mention about the possibility of conserving a product or transporting the product or even about the communication of the product. Unfortunately there are not many definitions that include the user as an important part of the design process. This research intends to analyze what means User Interface when we talk about packaging design. We propose analyzing the user interface in three stages divided as "way of opening", "way of using" and "way of discarding" as we believe a package exists until it is disposed. We found out that there are so many variations on the user interface making the user face a new situation with any package. This situation can make things confusing for the user and probably add complexity on the understanding of the use of the product. We also found out that there a lack of design for disposal leading the user to find its own way while getting rid of the product. Since the discard action is part of the life of the package this means that there is a lack of design on an important stage that cannot be ignored.

Lifestyle keeps changing and so is packaging. Design needs to move forward to adapt to the social development. In this research we tried to set a new classification that could help on the design process of contemporary packages. We talked about a classification on the type of use that we named as single-use and multiple-use. In nowadays daily life we consumed a large amount of packages that are meant to be discarded immediately. We called them single-use-packages. We are concern about different problems such as the lack of design for disposing the products and also the complexity on the user interface when we talk about a package that remains with the user for a very short period of time. We analyzed through a classification of 195 samples, the characteristics of single-use and multiple-use packages in the Japanese market to help with the development of a new approach to the design process. We found out that not only one-portion-packages are included in the classification of single-use but also packages that are supposed to be for multiple-use. Those packages are not easily re-closable situation which leads to a conflict with the function they are supposed to accomplish.

The Transport System by Vehicle with Persons Seated in Wheelchairs has been noticed recently. However, this system has been described as uncomfortable. The present study attempted investigating the vibration in the Transport System and clarifying the design problems. First, the vibration on the Floor-Wheelchair-Human body system was measured through the driving experiment. The measurement points were 5 points, on the human body, 3 points on the wheelchair, and 2 points on the floor. As a result, the input vibration of the floor between 1 and 10 Hz was found to generate resonance. In addition, the equipment used to secure the wheelchair was found to increase the acceleration of the floor vibration. Therefore, the input vibrations were revealed as a factor that causes discomfort in the Transport System. Next, as design problems, necessity of reducing acceleration between 1 and 10 Hz was pointed out. In conclusion, a method to clarify the characteristics of shock-absorbing equipment was proposed.

Nian Hua (Spring Festival pictures for the Lunar New Year), which had been an indispensable part of Chinese everyday life, is a gem in the treasure trove of the traditional cultures created by the common people in the long process of history. This research was carried out to examine the inheritance and revitalization of China's disappearing folk culture and modernization through the analysis of China's folk art, Nian Hua, as well as to rediscover and reassess its value. In conclusion, Nian Hua can be understood as follows: Nian Hua is the concentrate and sublimate of the common people's life. Nian Hua is the mirror of common people's life. It contains people's joys and sorrows in their life, reflects people's enthusiasm for a bright prospects in their life; what is more, expresses people's eagerness for sublimating the life and nature, shows people's pursuit for the perfect harmony between man and nature. Looking at the environmental condition of the earth today, "harmonious coexistence with nature" that the people of China have hoped for through nian hua is truly a universal theme. From this perspective, it is necessary for us to re-assess nian hua culture.

The role of a professional interior designer is often compared with that of a physician due to the responsibilities for health, safety, and welfare of the users. Therefore interior design programs need to be verified, evaluated, and guided by a set of expectations in order to produce competent interior design professionals with quality and integrity. The foundation for Interior Design Education Research (FIDER) is an organization that evaluates and accredits interior design programs in the United States and Canada to ensure quality education. It also sets and revises standards that are used for evaluating each program. The purpose of this paper is to introduce and review the accrediting system of FIDER and analyze its latest standards that were published in 2000. The authors have also analyzed the standards according to the definitions of a professional interior designer that were established by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) in order to find relationships between expectations of interior design education and professional practice.
