Investigation on cognition, sensation and estimation was made to clarify the prescriptions for the presence of experience and its degree on material, using the statistical methods. Straw and plastic were choson as the subject of this study; the former had constructed the Japanese traditional and material culture, the latter manufactured in the process of modernization and industrialization has occupied the new age. As a result, it is clear that the presence of experience and its degree on material have prescribed the quality of material cognition, and determined its sensation and content of estimation. Accordingly, in the design field, it has been absolutely necessary for the integration and cultivation of both physical and sensory features on material to gain one's experience at first hand.

Leonardo da Vinci's creative and scientific ability never dims throughout the thousands of pages of dessins and explanations he has left us, which inculude machine designs, anatomical studies, studies of water and so on. I have been reluctantly impressed with that Leonardo da Vinci is only deemed a master of art, and a genius in invention and discovery, up to this time. Regarding Leonardo's studies as editorial design, and refering to his philosophy of design and explanations of anatomy, I will inquire Leonardo's method of design, in this study. And then I will research an object of his studies, and the then printing and publication, and try to compare his thought with today's theory of design.

In this study, we conducted an experimental class in woodwork, stressing the importance of middle school students' creativity and also of the necessity for their deeper understanding of the relation between man and instrument. Some of the findings of the investigation show that students showed an extremely keen interest in studying the relation between man and instrument ; some design elements introduced into the process of learning, and the class work attaching importance to learners' creativity helped to much improve their attitudes towards the class ; the class work proved to help to sharpen students' sense of design and at the same time to let them appreciate the pleasure of creation and the spirit of design.

This paper discusses about industrial design and its social background and identifies its problems in developing countries, especially forcusing on Southeast Asia. Industrial design in this region has been started with political and economical independence and industrialization after The World War II. This discipline in the region differs from industrialized countries because of its socio-economic and cultural background. As main influential factors to industrial design in the region, the followings are declared ; leading bodies of the activity (as a social system), influence of developed countries (as an external environment), differences in design objects (as a value system), indigenous materials (as a natural environment) and technology (as a technological system). The factors suggest an alternative industrial design which differs from industrialized countries. The alternative industrial design could not be observed in a past design history and might be really essential one for the region.

Despite of the similarity of Singapore's industrial structure to Japan's, it is unable to observe industrial design (ID) discipline in Singapore. This paper deals with her social background and attitudes on this discipline. As a result it is declared that designing for TV set, one of her major products, for instance, is done in the home country of multi-national companies. This is also similar to the other products, therefore, she is in an enjoyable but passive attitude on this discipline. Naturally, her daily life is full of foreign products, which make difficulty of establishment of own life culture. ID education is also unable to be observed in Singapore. Basic background will be summarized as follows; 1. geo-political background as size of the land and others, 2. industrial and ecoromic background in world economy, 3. social background as a policyfor higher education system.

An investigation was made to obtain a clue to the design and to propose an advertisement of inside car card for weekly. An image for samples (the advertisement of inside car card for weekly and its weekly magazine) was studied by means of Factor Analysis method. The results were as follows; (1) An image of samples was constructed by four semantic dimensions, and (2) its structure was clarified by means of Probable Elliptic method, using the values of factor score. Consequently, the design of advertisement of inside car card for weekly was proposed on the basis of the above investigation. It may be concluded that the obtained results are helpful in designing the poster based on the character, to say nothing of inside car card for weekly.
