Prof. Hywel Williams (MSc, PhD, DSc, FRCP, FMedSci) is Professor and Co-Director of the Centre of Evidence-Based Dermatology at the University of Nottingham. He trained in dermatology at King's College Hospital with Dr. Anthony du Vivier. He then went to St. Johns Dermatology Centre, London where he studied epidemiology and clinical trials with Professor Rod Hay. Hywel joined the University of Nottingham in 1994 as an Associate Professor and became full Professor and chair in 1998. There, he founded the Cochrane Skin Group and the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network that now form part of the Centre of Evidence-Based Dermatology. Hywel also serves as a consultant paediatric dermatologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, specialising in childhood eczema. Outside of dermatology, Hywel has worked on funding committees for the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) for 15 years, culminating in him directing the largest Government funded clinical trials programme for medicine and surgery in the UK (NIHR HTA) . He now also advised the UK Government on COVID-19 research oversight.
