A Case of cavernous hemangioma was studied histogically and electron microscopically. It was a case of mixed hemangioma, histologically characterized partly by maked vasodilatation and partly by endothelial proliferation. After electron microscopic studies, we arrived at the following assumption. The endothelial proliferation was due to the proliferation of pericytes just under the endothelial cells. The pericytes were assumed to be multi-potential mesenchymal angioblasts which may differentiate either into pericytes or into endothelial cells.

An autopsied case of severe burn was reported. A 24-year old man had a burn of grade 2-4 involving 70% of the body surface and was immediately admitted to the hospital. Fluid transfusions were started and it improved shock states of the patient. On the first hospital day Ht was 57%, urine output was 240ml/day. After then he continued the good hospital course until the six hospital day, which time suddenly his temperature rose to 39.6°C and he developed dyspnoea and tachycardia, terminally urea nitrogen was 50mg% and blood pressure 78% mmHg. Blood transfusion, diuretics was given, however he expired on the same day. At autopsy there were severe pulmonary hemorrhage and edema. The both kidneys appeared pale and swollen. There were multiple petechial hemorrhages on the surface. Histologically the proxymal tubules revealed massive vacuole degeneration. There was no evidence of hemorrhagic casts. The adrenals showed the atrophic adrenal cortex, and in the fascicular layer there were numerous vacuoles in the cortical cells. There were multiple mucosal erosions in the esophagus and colon. The immediate cause of death was attributed to the severe pulmonary hemorrhages and edema.

A rare case of gumma located in the skeletal muscle was reported. An unmarried woman aged 18 had a mass in the left popliteal space without any subjective symptom. Operation revealed the mass was consisted of three separate tumors, of which one was child’s fist and two others were smaller in size, located in the popliteal space just like riding on the posterior aspect of the lateral condyle of the femur. The tumors had the origin in the femoral biceps muscle and was tightly adhesive with surrounding tissues, but no communication into the articular cavity was observed. Painless synovitis of the knee joint was recognized. Syphilitic test of the patient’s serum and joint fluid was positive, but no other syphilitic symptom was manifest. Her mother and brother showed the positive STS. The tumor was capsulated by the connective tissue and its sectional surface was light yello-wish-white and gummy elastic in consistence with cavity inside. Histological diagnosis was gumma. The patient has no symptom now at the interval of 1.5 years after operation, despite that her STS is still positive. The case was thought to be caused by congenital syphilis.

6 cases of sporotrichosis, which were examined in the department of dermatology, Nagasaki University, during 1964 to 1968, were summarized (Table 1). 4 of which were classified to solitary cutaneous type (Case 1, 2, 4 and 5) and 2 cutaneous-lymphangitis type (Case 3 and 6). All lesions histologically examined showed foreignbody granulomata and in 4 cases (Case 3, 4, 5 and 6) spore type fungal elements were demonstrated in PAS-stain. From all cases Sporotrichum Schenckii was isolated and lesions were successfully treated with oral administration of potassium iodide.

Statistical survey of dermatomycosis examined at the dermatological department of Nagasaki University, during 1965-1967, was reported. Number of patients suffering from dermatomycosis was 614 (8.1%) in 7588 total outpatiens. Lesions were classified to Tinea (trichophytosis) (78.7%), Candidiasis (14.6%), Pityriasis versicolor (5.8%), and others. Distribution of incidence in each type of lesions, in seasons, and in the sex was summerized in the Table 1-4. In the male, highest incidence of the disease was observed in the 4th decades, but in the female which was observed in the 2nd decades. Causative organisms of the Tinea were identified to Trichophyton rubrum (160 st.), T. mentagrophytes (98 st.), Epidermophyton floccosum (4 st.), T. ferrugineum (2 st.), T. violaceum (3 st.) and Microsponum (3 st.).
