People have been engaging in Satoyama conservation activities. However, civic groups which are working for Satoyama conservation have problems about participants. In this paper, I researched the type of participants and how they worked for Satoyama conservation. It was showed that the main participants were retired people who were mostly over 60. It is necessary for such civic groups to welcome younger people to continue their activities. To invite younger people who are engaging in their child care or work to their activity, I suggested the program in which various people, including parents and their children, can be interested and take part.

In this paper, I report on the significant factors affecting settlement consciousness from the view point of personal attributes and living environment. A web questionnaire was conducted for residents of 49 cities in Japan. The obtained results are shown as follows: Firstly, it was clarified that the settlement consciousness of respondents was high. Secondly, by using the quantification theory, I clarified the relations between the personal attributes/living environment and the settlement consciousness. It was showed that one of resident's ages had strongly influenced for the settlement consciousness. Then, it is clarified that the respondents of 20's and 30's age require "accessibility and convenience to urban facility", and the respondents of over 40's age require "spatial attraction of living quarter, e.g. standard of safety or quality of life".
