    The purpose of this paper is to clarify the method to designate the tree of landscape importance through the comparison of the policies for the designation of trees of landscape importance and a case study of Chigasaki city. This paper clarified the two points. One is the importance to catch the citizens' opinion in designating the tree of landscape importance. And the other is the effectiveness of both the recruitment of tree's picture and the questionnaire.

  • A case study of surroundings of Tokyo-Midtown district

    The purposes of this study are to figure out the land use changes in surrounding area of Tokyo-Midtown, and to grasp the changes of community activities. Regarding the land use changes, the numbers of apartment and car parks are increasing, but on the other hand, the numbers of apartment houses, commercial buildings, and offices are decreasing. Concerning the change of community activities, various activities are practiced, such as cleaning activities, festivals, events and anticrime prevention activities, involving the people related new employees of renewal areas.

  • Focusing on two cases in Tokyo

    In this study, we focus on the circulation of a community currency and all the efforts done by every single retail shops, and aim to consider how to improve the awareness and promote the community currency. We surveyed 13 community currencies in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama and Ibaraki respectively. In addition, we conducted street surveys for the 2 currencies out of these 13 community currencies, of which many shops are the joining as a membership and a wide range of availability. They are the Earth-day money and the Atom currency. We herewith would like to show you the difficulties and substantial challenges of a community currencies based on the result of this survey.

    This study clarifies the management issues of water facilities in urban parks. We investigated the management exercised at water facilities and cooperation with the inhabitants groups. We divided water facilities according to the capability of playing in the water and existence of aquatics. The problem of facilities to play in the water is the damage caused by disinfection by chlorine. Meanwhile, the problem related to existence of aquatics is the damage from large amount of aquatics increasing. There is a problem that few inhabitant groups cooperate to manage water facilities. We propose the types of management and cooperation with the inhabitants groups to solve those problems.

    The purpose of this study is to research relationships between fear of crime and crime prevention environment of the street space through the workshop in Saitama City Iwatsuki ward. I had 27 participants of the workshop evaluate crime prevention environment. The following results were obtained. 1) The public information of excessive crime prevention may rouse fear of crime. 2) Fear of crime decreases when control of the traffic and the sidewalk and the road are divided.3) Fear of crime rouse when we thought about the security of another people.

    The purpose of this study is to evaluate the low-carbon redevelopment of the Katsushika Niijuku 6 project which the Urban Renaissance Agency conducts, a case of large land-use change from an industrial site into a university, a park, and residential sites. Through this study, we can promote the redevelopment, the city-planning or the town- management which leads the low-carbon society in and around the site.

    To promote to learn and observe wildlife without facilitator, we placed signs Showa Memorial Park and provided information about wildlife using web pages for mobile phone. Its utilization and effect were surveyed by questionnaire. The results indicated that the system could provide learning opportunities without facilitator whenever users choose. However, use of web pages was low. It is necessary to ensure incentive for users.

    In Unite States of America, the evacuation has been done at hurricane, wildfire and so on. Though there has already planned some emergency strategy including evacuation in Japan, it is unclear whether evacuation can be done or not in Japan. This paper aims to discuss the possibility that people evacuate from high risk area before a serious disaster in Japan through the counteractive with Unite States of America. For planning and carrying out the evacuation in Japan, it is necessary to develop the evidence for decision making, traffic simulation, accountability of evacuation and public consciousness.

    This study aims to figure out the actual conditions and problems of the sightseeing guide signs for foreign tourists in Asakusa town. The signs are classified into major four types, such as sightseeing information, transportation information, specific site information, information calling for attention, and small fifteen types. Besides, the areas are divided into two types, such as "Road type" and "Sightseeing spot type" , and "inner area" and "circumference". Based on the result, we analyzed the reason of the areas insufficient areas of guide signature, and propose the future plan in Asakusa.

    The goal of this study is to find out the land use change and the role of residents' organization at conservation of residential environment in suburban area. We investigate the change of subdivision and the use of land, and the activities of local residents' organization. We show the changes to office uses and the segmentalized land in this area, and it is difficult for inhabitants' organization to conserve the large diversified environment. The organization can lead the area where land uses are simple and many aggressive inhabitants live.

    This paper is for the purpose of clarifying the theory and methodologies of British Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) carrying out the process for the Identification, Evaluation and setting Quality objectives of Landscapes that is the one of the main measures of the European Landscape Convention (ELC). <br>As a result, (1) Landscape Character Assessment is a value-free Baseline Inventory of Landscapes, (2) Landscapes has an original Type and Area, (3) Landscapes has a peculiar Quality Objectives which should be aimed at, (4) Landscape policy integrate related other policies, (5) it is necessary to investigate an application possibility as a method of the Land Use Evaluation of Japan.
