The soil cohesion is a most important mechanical property as regard to the ploughing. In this report, the relations between the cohesions and the water contents are stated and discussed. The measurements were conducted according to the methods of Atterberg with some modifications, and, the cohesion of hard block ("Festigkeit") and the cohesion of granular block ("Bindigkeit") were determined. The relations between the cohesions and the water contents in some of our soils are examined and the features of the cohesion curves are explained from a pure physical point of view. The well-known "break" of cohesion curves proposed by Alterberg was carefully reexamined with some heavy clays and the possibility of existense of the "break" is ascertained and discussed in the light of modern theories of capillary forces in soils, developed by W. B, Haines, R. A. Fisher, and Ch. Terzaghi.
