The new device for describing the contour of the optional section of the human body was produced by way of experiment. The principle utilized was that distance can be measured by the binocular vision. The apparatus can draw readily the delicate and the elastic human body without direct touching the measuring tool with the body. This was the special merit of the present optical copying device.
The He-Ne laser beam was projected to the human body and made a small light spo ton the body. The TV camera caught the light spot being fixed at a certain angle to the laser beam. The light spot of the beam changes its poation according to the unevenness of the bodys shape. The TV camera caught the positional differences of the spot turning to account the parallax. Then, the displayed signals on a CRT, which represent the irregular uledenness of the body, were recorded photographically afteramendment of the perspective error. Or, in another way, the optical signals on a CRT were converted into voltage through the detector of spot movement with servomechanism, and the outline of the various section of the body could be drawn on a paper of X-Y recorder.
