Recent studies have revealed that both of “Midas Touch-” and “Premature Movement-” Problems are the crucial problems in efficient use of a gaze interface. These problems are strongly relating to human gaze behaviours during using such kind of interfaces, and cause frequent errors such as mistyping, inappropriate inputs, and so on. This paper discusses the learning processes during using a gaze interface in typing Japanese texts, focusing on the abovementioned two problems. We performed 7-day experiments with 8 novice subjects to observe their performances as well as their subjective estimates of performance during learning. Based on the data, it could be interpreted that all subjects had been acquainted with the interface by relatively short practice. In addition, we found that the performance level after gaining acquaintance with the interface was quite acceptable in terms of practical use. Considering the analysis results, we also discuss efficiency of the gaze interface as well as the matters to be considered when such interfaces are implemented to potential users, which were elicited from results of the experiment.
