1. The plant of the Compositeae look like the Jerusalem artichoke, which is dotted over the Tokyo Prefecture, blossoms at the beinning of August, while Jerusalem artichoke blossoms at the beginning of September. This plant has the small tuber as finger in the ground (Fig. 1) and the tuber is cylindrical shape, pale yellow color, and its bud color is very beautiful pink, Scales at the knot are clearer than those of Jerusalem artichoke, and its tip is dark brown.
The characters of the plant except the points above explained always almost agrees with ones of the Jerusalem artichoke.
2. I give the new Japanese name“Kikuimomagai”to this plante according to Dr. TOMITARO MAKINO'S opinion.
3. According to HEGI's discription about Helianthi, and to the results of WEHMER'S of tuber of H. macrophyllus and H. tuberosus and to studies of other botanist, I give the botanical name“Helianthus macrophyllus WILLD. var. sativus”to“Kikuimomagai.”
4. The results of analysis shows that the levulose in the tuber is less than that of Jerusalem artichoke and is insufficient as materials of the levulose. But as containg comparatibively large lamounts of the albuminous substances, it is better to use as the vegetable than the Jerusalem artichoke.
