In this paper, we study MAICE-DP method for ill-posed problems. MAICE-DP method is based on Minimum AIC Estimation proposed by K.Tanabe[7] and Discrepancy Principle proposed by V.A.Morozov[3][6]. AIC proposed by H.Akaike[1][2] is one of the most famous information criterions and MAICE is very effective for data smoothing problems. Moreover, DP is well established theorically. But, in practice, this matching method, MAICE-DP, is not effective in solving ill-posed problems. We show this with the aid of numerical examples.

A method is presented for fitting a piecewise cubic polynomial to a sequence of data which contains oscillating components superposed on rapid background changes. The first step of smoothing is performed by a one-pass method proposed by Ichida et al.[2] where the polynomail pieces are calculated as the data is scanned only once from left to right. The knots of the approximating piecewise cubic polynomail are determined successively using a modified Powell criterion which has a free parameter μ determing the degree of smoothing(μ = 1 corresponds to the original Powell criterion). As μ grows large, the fitting curve becomes smoother and the oscillating components with longer periods can be separated. If a rapid background change needs to be preserved in the smoothed data, the sum of squares of residuals is locally minimized in the neighborhood of the rapid change as the second step. The proposed method which involves two steps is capable of separating the oscillating components from the rapid background changes. Some examples of good separation are displayed.

In order to obtain resonance frequencies of bellows, a discrete pseudauto Wigner distribution is applied. In a study, vibration signals of several kinds of bellows are acquired by a vibration tester in a laboratory. Resonance frequencies of those signals are estimated from the frequency response values of Wigner distribution. In another study, for two kinds of bellows of the same size, heat treated and non-heat treated, impact vibration signals are analyzed.

We present here practical methods for reducing the data points composing a plane curve. This method is characterized that it works by specifying the rate or th number of the points to be reduced, not by giving the error tolerance. In this method we apply different algorithms according to the property of the original curve and the rate of reducing. This will give highly accurate result and less time in computing. In addition, the means how to estimate the obtained result are treated.

In this paper the effect of memory bank conflict on the vector supercomputers is considered using the preliminary number theory. On currently used vector supercomputers the main memory consists of a number of banks. When the same bank is accessed simultaneously, so-called memory bank conflict occurs, and the computation speed drops greatly as compared with the maximum speed. Therefore the deterioration of performance due to memory bank conflict is studied mathematically in case ob bank connected with single and double ports. To check the validity of our arguments, numerical experiments are carried out on some supercomputers.

A method for automatic numerical generation of finite elements in the two-dimensional multiconnected region of an arbitrary shape is presented. The region of a complex shape is divided into some simply connected subregions and each subregion is mapped onto the square region in the transformed plane. The inverse functions of the mapping are determined by the numerical solutions to the boundary value problem of the simultaneous partial differential equations. After the mapped square regions are systematically divided into a set of triangular elements, each element is inversely mapped onto the physical plane by use of the functions. Finite element data for the global region are determined from those for the subregions.
