"The Interior" of characters The Story of Heike in should be studied many-sidedly as the variety of the story depends upon the texts. We studied here on the topic of Kenreimonin's conception and the parden of Naritsune in the fifth chapter of the second volume according to Enkei's text, which could be equivalent to the ones of "Parden" and "Ashizuri" in the third volume of Kakuichi's text. Compering the former with the latter, the features of "the interior" could be studied. In Enkei's text, he gazed affairs before his eyes carefully and seeked for the interior meaning of objects. We could see a kind of reality or persuasive power though which was not always effective, and we should value the literariness in Enkei's text so far. On the contrary, Naritsune's description in Kakuichi' text was apparently inferior to that in Enkei's text. However compilation and simplification were organically related to settlement of the story and the interior description. For example, Shunkan's conflict with Naritsune was described carefully in Enkei's and on the other hand it was omitted as far as possible and Shunkan's tragedy was emphasized in order to show Kiyomori's cruelity which as a result swayed the destiny of the family. Thus the whole structure was formed up.
