The difficulty in analyzing the structure of relationships between the father and the son in Mura no Ie is because of the particular relationship between the family and the nation in Japan. In Mura no Ie,the family can be interpreted as an element of Tenno system. Within the family the specified relationship betweent the father, the authority of the family, and the son is regarded as a source of confrontation. In another analysis of the work, however, the family as serving a function in society can be differentiated from one as created from a human desire for bonding. Nakano Shigeharu's change in philosophy should be discussed from this point of view.
