The old notes of Isemonogatari is one of the unique interpretations of the original story, which offers us another new story. It is not admitted in the field of modern studies, however, it is not the old notes but Isemonogatari itself that has potentiality to create a new story. In this essay, analysing the sixth chapter, I would like to explain the relation between the context and the "notes" in detail. Also the discussion is focused on the condition of Isemonogatari, in which many opposed images intermingle, and the reconsideration of the old notes which is full of playful mood.

The relation between Otoko and Okina in the structure of Isemonogatari can be considered to be similar to that between poems and stories which compose the whole work. At first, how the poems of Otoko and Okina reflect the idea of his self and others' self is analysed and then I make it clear that the poems included in the story have some individual meaning separated from the story itself. By bringing the viewpoints of regarding Otoko as "disguised child," I try to show the system of language for communication and to search for the image of others' self as " nothing."

In this essay I try to find the source of love story of Narihira and Takako in the actual feature of Takako shown in the old materials. Takako was ranked as Queen mother, Kokumo, however, she was isolated in the world because of many scandals. It may be gossips that she was associated with Narihira, lustful man, when she was driven from her post as Queen mother temporarily from Kanpyo 8 to Engi 1.

The place name "Heijo no Kyo" appeared in the first chapter of Isemonogatari reminds us of Mukashiotoko whose base is in "Heiankyo." Overlapped two spaces stand for the essence of Mukashiotoko himself as well as his wandering. The place name "Kasuga no Sato", which is associated with women, has close relation with "Kasugano" included in the preface of Mukashiotoko's poems. As the first chapter signifies not only a part but the whole story, I am sure that the place names in the first and second chapter lead us to clarify the theme of Isemonogatari.

The works of Gennai Hiraga were created by using many works originated in the old China and Japan as its models. It is interesting to analyse how he quoted the original works to make his own more enjoyable. I concentrate on the relation between one of his oldest works, Nenashigusa and the kyogen "Yao" to show how Nenashigusa was created. The reason why his own style, "Hiraga-buri" was excellently clearly formed was that he was fascinated not only by the languages in the original text but some visions conjured up by them.

The analysis that picturesque idea is filtered in the whole story of Den'en no nutsu can be proved by the fact that Willam Blake's poem was included in it as a foreword at first. Among various influences which the picturesque idea has on the story is the formation of a unique distinctive "versatile style" in Den'en no Yuutsu. It is also closely related to the approach of applying Edgar Allan Poe's psychological analysis. Further consideration into the versatile style help us to understand Haruo Sato's versatile attitude as a creator at that time.
