Dr. Andrew P. Kowalczyk is Endowed Professor of Dermatology at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA.
Dr. Kowalczyk received his Ph.D. in Physiology and Cell Biology at the Albany Medical College (Albany, New York) in 1992. After completing his dissertation work on fibronectin matrix assembly by vascular endothelial cells, Dr. Kowalczyk pursued postdoctoral studies at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. At Northwestern, Dr. Kowalczyk worked with Professor Kathleen J. Green and established an interest in desmosome biology and epidermal blistering disorders, such as pemphigus. In 1998, Dr. Kowalczyk established an independent laboratory at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Kowalczyk remained at Emory University while holding appointments in the Departments of Cell Biology and Dermatology until moving to the Pennsylvania State University in 2020.
